Welcome to 2025 professional wrestling fans. Recently, I released a prediction piece on what could happen in WWE in 2025. Well, I’m not done, as I will also be making predictions for another professional wrestling promotion, All Elite Wrestling (AEW). 2024 was an up-and-down year for AEW, but I enjoyed most of the content and matches produced last year. So, let’s get into my 10 predictions of what could happen in AEW in 2025.
1. Ricochet Will Turn Heel In 2025 And Win The TNT Championship
Ricochet is going to turn heel this year. I mean, look at what has been happening recently with the fans throwing toilet paper at him. One of the weird parts of his WWE career is that they never tried him out as a heel. A heel Ricochet would be a perfect opponent for current TNT Champion Daniel Garcia to lose the title. AEW is very high on Daniel Garcia, too, and a match with Ricochet would be so much fun. I hope AEW does it right and not miss out on the opportunity with Ricochet being a heel.
2. The Hurt Syndicate Will Recruit Powerhouse Hobbs To Join Their Faction
The Hurt Syndicate is finally here, and I was hyped to finally see MVP, Shelton Benjamin, and Bobby Lashley back together. I loved their run during the pandemic in WWE and hated how the Hurt Business ended. MVP has been giving cards out to multiple professional wrestlers, and it’s clear that a fourth member of the group will be added. Powerhouse Hobbs makes the most sense out of the wrestlers on the roster. It seems like AEW doesn’t have a plan with Hobbs, but he still has a ton of potential. He and the Hurt Syndicate would be perfect.
3. Hiroshi Tanahashi Will Face Adam “EDGE” Copeland At Forbidden Door In August 2025
This will be Hiroshi Tanahashi’s final year in pro wrestling. There are a ton of matches I want to see him wrestle before he hangs up the boots. One of those matches is Tanahashi facing Adam “EDGE” Copeland. I believe it will finally happen in August 2025 at the Forbidden Door PPV in London, England. I have wanted it for 10 years, and it would be a tremendous missed opportunity if it doesn’t happen.
4. Hook Will Leave AEW And Join WWE
When projecting a wrestler that will leave AEW, everyone would say it’s Ricky Starks. I would be one of them, but I will name another person who is likely WWE-bound. That wrestler is Hook. It’s not like this is a secret, as it’s been rumored since April that Hook may test free agency. WWE has had a high interest in Hook for a while, and I think he will make the jump to WWE in NXT, as he’s going nowhere in AEW.
5. Kenny Omega Will Have His First AEW Match With Kazuchika Okada At All In
Kenny Omega just returned to AEW at the end of 2024, which is fantastic as Omega is one of my favorites in AEW. Plus, with the ratings issues, AEW really needs him back. With Omega back, I want to see him and Kazuchika Okada have a match. It will happen, but I think their first match has to occur in All In on July 12th at Arlington, Texas. That’s the best time to get Okada and Omega together in the ring.
6. Big Bill Will Turn On Chris Jericho And Win The Ring Of Honor World Championship
Technically, this is a ring of honor prediction, but Tony Khan owns AEW and still showcases ROH talent on AEW shows, so I am counting it. Plus, it’s my list, and I make the rules here.
Big Bill is an exciting name in Ring of Honor, and while Jericho’s Learning Tree gimmick has not been great, it’s clear the plan is for Jericho to have a feud with Big Bill. I think Big Bill will be the one that turns on Jericho. They will have a feud, and hopefully, Jericho will go into a new gimmick and face Big Bill for the Ring of Honor World Championship. No matter what, Big Bill will beat Jericho and become the top champion in the Ring of Honor brand.
7. The Acclaimed Will Break Up With Max Caster Going Heel On Anthony Bowens
The Acclaimed is one of the best homegrown talents in AEW in the tag team department. Max Caster is great on the mic, and Anthony Bowens is a great worker in the ring. Also, I like Billy Gunn being their manager, and it’s been great with them. However, they have gotten stale for the past few months, and a change needs to occur.
A breakup between the two is something that should be happening soon. It’s clear Bowens has the potential to have a really good singles run, which should happen this year. As for who turns heel, I think Caster should, as he has the mic skills to do it and be a cocky-type heel.
8. Darby Allin Will Win The AEW World Championship In 2025
Its time. Darby Allin has been one of their best-booked professional wrestlers and is tremendously over in AEW. He needs to win the AEW World Championship in 2025. With all the crazy bumps he has taken, who knows how long his career will last? With all the crazy stunts, I fear he might end up in a wheelchair at the end of his career.
I have not been a fan of the Death Rider group Jon Moxley has led, and I think one year after Sting’s retirement at the EW Revolution PPV would be a perfect time. Now, Allin probably won’t have a lengthy run as he plans to climb Mount Everest in 2025. Allin needs to become a champion in 2025.
9. “Timeless” Toni Storm Will Dethrone Mairah May At Grand Slam Australia
I don’t care what anyone says; Toni Storm is my female professional wrestler in 2024. You can make the argument Rhea Ripley, but Toni Storm’s matches and character work puts her on top. I like what AEW is doing with her in this amnesia gimmick. The goal is to get her back to her incredible Timeless Marilyn Monroe gimmick. With AEW going to Australia in February, they have to put the title on Toni Storm, who was born in Australia. It would be the perfect time to take the title off Mariah May and put it on Storm. She deserves it.
10. Sting’s Son Steve Borden Jr Will Debut In AEW In Late 2025
This one is a bit of a long shot, but I like to throw one in there when doing my predictions. When Sting had his retirement match, not too long afterward, it was reported that his son, Steve Borden Jr, was receiving training from AEW and was planning to start a professional wrestling career. I predict that in late 2025, Steve Borden Jr will debut in AEW and be with Darby Allin during his rookie season. That would be a great way to start under the guidance of Darby, who was with Sting through his AEW career. That would be a great way to start a career.
So those are my 10 predictions on what could happen in AEW in 2025. My question for those reading is, do you agree? What do you disagree with? What are your predictions for AEW in 2025?
