Now that the 2024 NFL season is over, it’s time to look back on the history that was made in the 105th season of the league’s history. It was an exciting season full of ups and downs for every franchise. It was a historic season in many ways around the NFL from players to teams to everything in between.

The Denver Broncos only scored one touchdown in their Wild Card weekend loss to the Buffalo Bills but it was a historic one. Bo Nix found Troy Franklin for a 43-yard touchdown in the first quarter. This marked the first time in NFL Playoff history that a rookie threw a touchdown pass to another rookie.

In the Eagles’ 40-22 demolition of the Chiefs in Super Bowl 59, Cooper DeJean took an interception to the endzone for a pick-six. He saved his first career interception for the most important game of his rookie year. DeJean also became the first player in NFL history to score a touchdown in the Super Bowl on his birthday. 

8. Myles Garrett Keeps Stacking Sacks

Although the Browns had a terrible season and Myle Garrett requested a trade, Garrett made history in what could be his last season in Cleveland. He became the first player in NFL history to record 14 or more sacks in three straight seasons. The team that lands him in a trade is getting one of the NFL’s best defenders. 

7. Tristan Wirfs Is The First Of A Kind

Tampa Bay Buccaneers offensive tackle Tristan Wirfs was named a First Team All-Pro in 2024. The selection made him the first player in NFL History to be secreted as an All-Pro at left tackle and right tackle. His first All-Pro selection came in 2021, and now he has one in 2024 from the other side of the line.

In 2024 the Detroit Lions became the first team in NFL history to have two wide receivers and two running backs go over 1,000 scrimmage yards in a single season. Amon Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, David Montgomery, and Jahmyr Gibbs all eclipsed 1,000 yards. With offensive coordinator Ben Johnson leaving town, the offense could look different in Detroit next season. 

5. Lamar Jackson’s Historic Season

Despite being robbed of the NFL MVP award in 2024, Lamar Jackson had a historic season. He became the first player in NFL history to have 40+ passing touchdowns and less than five interceptions. On top of all that, he rushed for 900 yards. The NFL made a mistake on the MVP award. 

4. The Bills Get 30 And 30

The Bills fell short to the Chiefs again, but Josh Allen won MVP and helped make history along the way. Buffalo was the first team in NFL history to have 30+ passing touchdowns and 30+ rushing touchdowns. Allen and James Cook put the team on their back in 2024. Losing their number-one receiver called for a spread attack from the Bills’ weapons. 

3. Jayden Daniels Makes History

In a magical first season in Washington, Jayden Daniels became the fourth rookie quarterback in NFL history to win a playoff game on the road. Russell Wilson, Mark Sanchez, and Joe Flacco are the only other quarterbacks to do it. Daniels also became the first player in NFL history to throw two passing touchdowns in a road playoff game. The future is bright in Washington.

2. Chiefs Spread The Offense

The Chiefs fell short of the three-peat, but still made some history along the way. Kansas City became the first 15-win team in NFL history to not have a single player go over 1,00 yards from scrimmage. Kareem Hunt led the way with 904 yards and the Chiefs had 10 players with over 200 yards from scrimmage.

In the Super Bowl 57 rematch, Jalen Hurts, and the Eagles got their revenge on the Chiefs and Hurts won Super Bowl MVP. They made it look easy and Jalen Hurts silenced the haters. The Super Bowl win makes him the first starting quarterback since Ken Stabler who went to Alabama to win a Super Bowl. It’s up for debate if Alabama or Oklahoma gets to claim Hurts, but it technically counts.

The 2024 NFL season has now come and gone in a breeze, leaving us with countless memorable moments. The Chiefs will be back with a vengeance in 2024 as the Eagles look to defend their Super Bowl title. In the best sports league in the world, history is always waiting to happen. It will be interesting to see what the 2025 NFL season has in store.
