The college football season always has its ups and downs every single week. It is a huge roller coaster of emotions week in and week out and not many things top it when it comes to sports. These are the four best NCAA games of week one of the 2022 season

Week one of the NCAA season certainly has its fair share of amazing games. As it features old rivalries renewed like the Backyard Brawl, blue blood schools facing off, and what many would call the Urban Meyer Bowl when Utah meets Florida. It was hard to pick the four best NCAA games of the 2022 season every single week but even harder to do in the debut week.

Also make sure to check out the five best NFL games for week one as well and keep your eyes open for the weekly series of the four best NCAA and five best NFL games each week.

The Four Best NCAA Games

Pittsburgh Panthers vs West Virginia Mountaineers

The backyard brawl is back and it is spectacular and this game is sure to be a great game as West Virginia and Pittsburgh will face off. These two old Big East rivals are facing off for the first time in eleven years and the Mountaineers have won the last three in a row. One of the most notable games in this series was the iconic 2007 matchup that saw a terrible Pittsburgh Panthers team ruin the West Virginia Mountaineers’ national championship hopes.

Pittsburgh is coming off an amazing season as they finished last year with a record of 11-3 and won the Atlantic Coast Conference Championship. While West Virginia is a team on the rise and they will be looking to take the next step and become relevant in college football this season. I could not think of a more electric way to kick off the 2022 NCAA football season for both of these teams. This is easily one of the four best games of week one of the season.

Floridia Gators vs Utah Utes

Utah and Florida will face off in week one in what is sure to be a great game between two top power five teams. Both teams are coming off of great seasons last year and they will be looking to build off of that here in 2022. Utah won themselves a Pac-12 Conference Championship last season but lost a heartbreaking Rose Bowl to Ohio State. Now they will be looking to get their first win of the year against a tough Gators team here in week one.

This game has a chance to be a real show stealer here in week one. Both of these programs are on the brink of breaking out and becoming perennial playoff contenders year in and year out. Especially Utah playing in a conference like the Pac 12 which gives them a little bit of an advantage over the Florida Gators who play in a very tough SEC. This has the chance to be a thriller, that is why it is one of my four best NCAA games for week one of the season.

Notre Dame Fighting Irish vs Ohio State Buckeyes

four best NCAA games of week one

As a Notre Dame fan myself this is the one that I’m most interested in for week one. It’s the true start to the Marcus Freeman era, against the team that many people say is the best team Ryan Day has ever had during his short tenure in Columbus. Anytime these two blue bloods of college football get together you could expect a classic and that is exactly what I expect in this game.

Notre Dame is one of the most tradition rich teams in the history of the sport and Ohio State is not far behind. Ohio State seems to be the heavy favorite the Irish just seem to play so much differently under Freeman and they did former coach Brian Kelly. That is why I expect this one to be a close game and that is why it is one of my four best games for week one of the season. In my opinion this one has the potential to be one of the four best NCAA games of the season as well.

Georgia Bulldogs vs Oregon Ducks

This one in any other season would likely be a potential playoff matchup but we have the luxury of getting it in the first week of the year. As the defending national champions, the Georgia Bulldogs will open up their season against one of the most dominant West Coast teams in the country, the Oregon Ducks.

Oregon is a program that has had a few chances in recent years to be in the playoffs but unfortunately couldn’t get over the hump. Meanwhile, Georgia has also been a perennial playoff team but finally captured that elusive national championship last season. It’ll be interesting to see if Georgia can recapture the form from last year and if Oregon bounces back after a tough finish. That is why it is one of my four best NCAA games for week one of the season.
