How do you think these teams will play during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar?
With the final qualifying window now closed it’s time to take a look at the CONCACAF 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. Football fans all around the world, almost certainly have a feeling of withdrawal running through their veins at the moment.
We are in a World Cup year in the middle of June and there is no World Cup to speak of yet. Unfortunately for all of us, we have to wait at least another four months until we get to watch the world’s most beautiful game played on the world’s most beautiful stage. After several pushbacks due to a global pandemic and other factors, we finally know all 32 teams that will be heading to Qatar in November for their chance at World Cup glory.
It has certainly been a wild ride over the last year and a half during World Cup qualifying regardless of the region your favorite country happens to be playing in. Each and every region has its own unique challenges and difficulties that you face throughout the long grueling process that is FIFA World Cup qualifying. Today we will be taking a look at The five nations from the North American region that qualified for the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Those nations are Canada, Mexico, the United States, and Costa Rica.
2022 CONCACAF FIFA World Cup Teams
Canada:
The Great White North might not be far off from becoming a soccer nation. They finished at the top of the table in the 2022 CONCACAF World Cup qualifying table. They have some of the best players in the region like Kyle Larin, Johnathon David, Taj Buchanan, and Alphonso Davies. Larin led the entire region in goals in all of the 2022 World Cup qualifying cycle. They look like they could have a serious shot to make some noise in Qatar after qualifying for their first World Cup since 1986.
They have been drawn into a group with Belgium, Morocco, and Croatia. They have a really solid shot of qualifying for the knockout rounds this cycle and it would be a good bit of momentum for them heading into the 2026 World Cup that they will have a part in hosting for the first time ever as well.
Mexico:
There are a lot of questions surrounding the Mexican National Team heading into the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. As they have been regressing a lot as of late. They have been struggling to beat the United States over the last three years or so and it is looking like a changing of the guard for CONCACAF’s two biggest rivals. It will be interesting to see how they perform going up against a tough group that includes Messi’s Argentina, and Lewandowski’s Poland as well as Saudi Arabia.
Costa Rica:
This Costa Rica team had the longest road to the 2022 World Cup as they had to win a one-game playoff against New Zealand to qualify. They were excellent at home during the 2022 World Cup qualifying cycle and definitely have a shot at making some noise in Qatar in just a few months.
USA:
The United States men’s national team is currently in the middle of their golden generation and they have a real chance to make some noise in 2022. It could be the perfect primer for the 2026 World Cup which they will host at home as most people that are fans of the team could see that making a Semifinals or a finals run in 2026.
If they can remain healthy here for the 2022 FIFA World Cup they have a chance to make some noise as well, especially with guys like Giovanni Reyna, Sergiño Dest, Weston McKennie, and Christian Pulisic can find their form heading into Qatar.
