Versatile Chelsea player, Reece James, has agreed to extend his association with the Blues keeping him at the bridge for a further six years.
The homegrown 24-year-old who rose through the Chelsea ranks has since made 128 appearances as a Blue, scoring ten goals and providing 20 assists. Dubbed a fighter on and off the pitch, James has become one of the fan-favorites on the team and is respected by all of his teammates.
Discussions regarding fresh terms had, however, been on for some time, but, the first name on the Thomas Tuchel team sheet has committed his future to the club despite La Liga giants and current Champions League holders, Real Madrid showing interest in taking the highly touted prospect to Madrid.
In a statement on the club’s official website, the Blue said: “I am over the moon with my new contract and I’m thankful for the fans, the new ownership, and everyone involved in the club. I cannot wait to see what the future holds, and I am sure we will have the chance of winning many trophies.
“I grew up supporting this club and I’ve been here since I was a six-year-old. I put pen to paper on a new deal because this is the club I want to be at. I’d like to say a special thanks to the fans, I am here to stay and we have a bright future ahead of us.”
Reece James Makes Chelsea Vow
Chelsea, who were big spenders in the recently concluded transfer window, are now keen to tie down multiple players within the squad. Reece James is set to become the highest-paid defender in Chelsea’s history, amassing £250,000 per week till 2028.
The defender, who recently made history alongside his sister Laurie James as the first set of siblings with different genders to represent England, is not new to winning trophies and has pledged to take the Blues back to the glory days amidst their rough start to the season. The English man has gradually become one of the best players in his position.
Throughout his stay at Chelsea, he has triumphed across Europe claiming the Champions League, UEFA Super Cup, and FIFA Club World Cup in his time with the first team.
“We are thrilled to give Reece a new long-term contract at Chelsea. He is an outstanding player and a true Chelsea man, and we are all looking forward to watching him continue to flourish at Stamford Bridge.”- Todd Boehly said.
Chelsea, however, would be shifting their focus to cementing the places of other vital players within the squad.
