The Philadelphia Eagles are 2-0 and their players are getting recognized for their spectacular performances. For the second week in a row, the Eagles have another player named NFC Player of the Week. This time it was Darius Slay who brings in the award for his excellent game on defense. Week One it was Zech McPhearson who received the honor for his special teams performance.
The Eagles had a tough challenge in Week Two facing the Vikings with Kirk Cousins at quarterback and Justin Jefferson at wide receiver. Eagles’ defensive coordinator Jonathan Gannon ended up scheming the best game of his Eagles tenure. He smartly paired up Darius Slay on Justin Jefferson for most of the game.
Darius Slay was unstoppable on Monday night. He had a career-high five pass deflections in the game. Slay also had two interceptions. With Slay in coverage on Justin Jefferson, Jefferson had just one catch for five yards. Both of Slay’s interceptions came on passes intended for Jefferson.
Slay lived up to his nickname “Big Play Slay” all game long. His interceptions came during critical times in which the Vikings had an opportunity to get back in the game. Slay also shut down one of the league’s best wide receivers in Justin Jefferson. Jefferson had 184 receiving yards in Week One while just 48 yards against the Eagles.
The Eagles travel to meet the Washington Commanders in Week Three. Darius Slay will be challenged with a matchup against the Commander’s best receiver Terry McLaurin. McLaurin has burned the Eagles in the past, but Darius Slay will be ready. Hopefully it will be another dominating performance from “Big Play Slay”.
