With their backs against the wall, the Cincinnati Bengals got their first win over the New York Jets with a final score of 27-12, staying away from becoming an 0-3 team to start the year.
The Bengals did something they usually don’t, which is elect to receive the ball to start the game, and it turned out in their favor as they drove down the field and scored a touchdown right out of the gate. This was the best the Cincinnati offense has looked through the first three games by a long shot. Joe Burrow connected with Samaje Perine on a 3rd and Goal score.
Tyler Boyd went for well over 100 yards and a score, Chase struggled but still found the end zone, and Higgins had a touchdown called back that, in all honesty, should not have been. However, he still went on to have over five receptions and 90+ receiving yards in the game.
The defense held the Jets to only field goals in the matchup; plus, Logan Wilson and Trey Hendrickson both forced turnovers. Hendrickson led the way with three sacks in the game, one being a strip sack. In contrast, Wilson intercepted a pass 20 yards down the field, which is highly impressive as a linebacker in pass coverage. Jessie Bates also added an interception towards the end of the game that iced it.
Thursday Night Preview
Cincinnati has a quick turnaround when they head back home to take on the Miami Dolphins in an intriguing Thursday night matchup. The Dolphins just upset the Buffalo Bills and now stand at 3-0. So we should be in tune for a high-powered game with tons of talent on the field for this game.
The Bengals did suffer a few injuries, unfortunately. DJ Reader left the game with a knee injury and never returned. Both Higgins and Hendrickson left throughout the game. However, they both returned and finished the matchup which is a very positive sign for the Bengals. In addition, Germaine Pratt missed this game due to injury but is expected to be back by Thursday night.
