Cardinals’ Dynamic QB Out For The 2022 Season

The Arizona Cardinals have lost their starting quarterback for the remainder of the season.

Arizona Cardinals quarterback, Kyler Murray, will miss the remainder of the season from a torn ACL suffered in the Monday Night Football loss to the New England Patriots. This is disappointing news for Murray and the Cardinals.

How Did The Injury Happen?

Murray was injured in the Cardinals’ first drive of the game. He scrambled out of the pocket and immediately went down when attempting to juke a Patriots’ defender. Murray was carted off the field and did not return. MRI tests on Tuesday showed a torn ACL. A typical recovery time for this injury is 9-12 months, so it is unknown when he will return next year.

Kyler Murray signed a massive contract extension before the 2022 season began. He will make up to $230.5 million over the next five years. The former Oklahoma Sooner and 2018 Heisman winner was having an ok year for the Cardinals. Murray completed 66.4% of his passes for 2,368 yards, 14 touchdowns, and seven interceptions in 11 starts this year.

What Does This Mean For The Cardinals?

The Arizona Cardinals are in the midst of an extremely disappointing season. Arizona is just 4-9, which is not how the team or fans wanted the team to follow up on their promising 11-6 record from a year ago.

The Cardinals started the 2022 season 2-2 before things started falling apart. Arizona has dropped five of their past six games, which has all but eliminated them from postseason contention.

The injury to Murray will make things difficult for the team as they look to close out the year strong. Colt McCoy will take over the starting quarterback duties for the remainder of the season. McCoy has completed 69.4% of his passes for 702 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions in three appearances in 2022.

The next three games for the Cardinals are against teams with losing records (Broncos, Buccaneers, and Falcons). Arizona will close out the year in San Francisco against the division-leading 49ers. Even if they can win out, the Cardinals will finish with a sub-.500 record.

In Conclusion

It’s tough to see one of the NFL’s top young stars go down with such a serious injury. Hopefully, Murray can come back early in the 2023 season.
