The Steph Curry Injury Bug Continues

On Wednesday, with over two minutes left in the third quarter, Curry suffered a left shoulder injury after attempting to strip the ball from Jalen Smith as he drove to the basket. Stephen Curry is seen holding his shoulder as he runs down the court to his bench. The Warriors would call a timeout, and Curry would sit with trainers on the bench for a few minutes. He would then head to the locker room with trainers.

On Thursday, Curry had an MRI and received news of a shoulder subluxation. Golden State did not provide a timeline for his return. However, according to Adrian Wojnarowski, Curry will likely only miss “a few weeks.”

Curry has been known to be injured throughout the season. His most common injuries occur in his ankles; his ankles have always been a problem for him throughout his career. Curry has not played more than 70 games since the 2016-2017 season. Stephen has already missed three games this year due to an elbow injury and another ankle injury. The Warriors are 0-3 when Curry is not on the floor.

What Does This Mean For The Warriors?

As mentioned above, Golden State has not won a game without Steph Curry on the floor, going 0-3. However, two of those games were against the Pelicans, who currently rank second in the Western Conference. If the season ended today, the other loss for the Warriors without Steph would’ve been against another playoff team in the seventh-place Utah Jazz.

The Warriors are currently 14-15 on the year; they need as many wins as possible. Golden State has a brutal schedule coming up; in the seven games they play over two weeks, five of them will be against potential playoff teams. It will be a tall task for the Warriors to come out with a positive record without Curry during his injury.

Ideally, the Warriors would want Steph Curry back before Christmas. Unfortunately, with it being an at least two-week injury, that is unattainable. The Warriors are fighting for their playoff lives and could use a couple of wins without Curry to keep them in the conversation. When Curry returns, Golden State will have plenty of work to do if they want to make the playoffs this year.
