The Toronto Raptors are looking for a new head coach and might have stumbled upon one. According to Shams Charania and Joe Vardon of The Athletic, the Raptors met with Steve Nash to discuss their head coaching job.
Nash spent 18 seasons as a player in the NBA and 10 of them came with the Phoenix Suns where he won two league MVPs.
Nash is one of the best point guards of all time, but his coaching career got off to a rough start.
Does Nash Make Sense For The Raptors?
Nash was hired by the Brooklyn Nets in 2020 and led the Nets to two playoff appearances before getting fired at the beginning of the 2022-2023 season when he started 2-5.
The Nets weren’t exactly the easiest team to coach since he had to deal with all the drama Kyrie Irving had. Kevin Durant could never stay healthy and there was a revolving door with trades of James Harden and Ben Simmons going in and out.
I’m not sure what the Raptors see in Nash. There are a handful of great other coaching options out there like Doc Rivers, Monty Williams, and Mike Budenholzer, who have done something in this league.
Unless the Raptors are going to blow this thing up and start over and use Nash as a guy who can relate to the young players.
I don’t see Nash getting hired by anyone to coach their team, and I think the Raptors are just out here talking to everyone.
