NFL Free Agency is underway, and moves are being made all over the league. One team that started slow in this frenzy is the New York Giants. With glaring holes all over the roster and an abysmal QB situation, how would they approach this offseason?

There were rumors that free agents were staying away from the team, and the franchise was compared to “a sinking ship”. GM Joe Schoen has lost a lot of goodwill with the fans, but he may be on the right track to earning it back.

Huge Free Agent Signings

Starting with the biggest signing so far, the Giants have agreed to terms with former Miami Dolphins safety Jevon Holland. The deal is set at three years for $45.3 million. The Giants had one of the worst secondaries in the NFL last season, ranking 31st in interceptions.

Holland’s Miami resume brings 57 starts in four seasons, 301 total tackles, five sacks, five interceptions, and five forced fumbles. He’s a player who moves fast and hits hard, which is just what the doctor ordered for this secondary.

Another addition to the secondary is cornerback Paulson Adebo from the New Orleans Saints. His contract is for three years, $54 million. Adebo doesn’t bring the same “big name” that Holland does, but his stats speak for themselves.

The Giants acquired Paulson Adebo in NFL Free Agency.

Adebo had a shortened season in 2024, suffering a broken femur after only seven starts. 2023 was nice to him. With 76 tackles, four interceptions, and two forced fumbles, Adebo is quietly on Holland’s level. Both of these guys should complement each other perfectly.

Defense, Defense, Defense

Veteran defensive tackle Roy Robertson-Harris has agreed to terms with the Giants. The contract is for two years, $10 million. This move might fly under the radar, as Robertson Harris is an eight-year vet with over 100 games played. He brings a leadership that the Giants need and could be a lot of fun alongside Dexter Lawrence.

Former Cowboys defensive end Chauncey Golston is another defensive addition to the Giants and a great one at that. With over 60 NFL starts in four years, Golston has nine sacks, two fumble recoveries, and 17 QB hits. Golston might not be a game-wrecker right away. With edge rushers like Kayvon Thibodeaux and Brian Burns, he has a great opportunity to grow.

If those names weren’t enough, New York brought in another defensive free agent in linebacker Chris Board. Board is a reliable veteran for this team. With over 100 starts, he’s only missed two games in his entire career. Injuries hurt the Giants’ defense last year, and Chris Board is the exception to that bad luck.

Expectations For A Giant Defense

The NFL Draft is sure to see some more names added to this roster. Last year saw the addition of defensive backs Andru Phillips and Tyler Nubin. Nubin received a lot of praise for his rookie campaign, and stood out among a below average secondary. Phillips only started six games, but played well in his appearances.

Brian Burns and Tyler Nubin

Dexter Lawrence is set to return from injury in 2025, and it’s well-known that he’s one of the best defensive tackles in the NFL. Kayvon Thibodeaux is in the final year of his rookie deal, and he’s looking to return to form after missing time last year. Brian Burns is also entering his second year as a Giant. Now more comfortable in the system, he should see more success.

New additions, returning stars, and players looking to prove themselves will make up this defense. Linebackers Bobby Okereke and Micah McFadden have been standouts, and they’ll continue that momentum as well. It’s time to see the “Big Blue Wrecking Crew” once again, and that’s where expectations should be set.

End Of My Giants Free Agency Rant

The Giants’ defense started hot last season and quickly fizzled out. The offense has plenty of holes, but it’s great that Joe Schoen is loading up for second-year defensive coordinator Shane Bowen. Free agency is far from over, so we will certainly see more moves. It’ll be interesting to see how things shake out in New York.
