On Monday, Cleveland Browns star pass rusher Myles Garrett released a statement on social media asking for a trade, which is no surprise.
Garrett just turned 29 and is entering his ninth NFL season. The Browns went 3-14 this past year, the second-worst season he has ever participated in the NFL.
Garrett does not want to stay for a rebuild, and here are five teams that could be interested in the star defensive lineman.
5. Chicago Bears
The Bears pulled off a trade for an elite pass rusher a few years ago when they went all out for Oakland Raiders Khalil Mack. The most significant pieces Chicago gave up in the deal were two first-round picks, the same number of picks a team will have to give up to get Garrett.
Why not try to get the star pass rusher? The Bears’ franchise quarterback, Caleb Williams, is entering his second season and still on his rookie contract. If new head coach Ben Johnson can get the offense clicking, the team can be a real threat in the NFC.
Pair Edge Montez Sweat with Garrett, and there won’t be a lot of opposing quarterbacks that will be able to get rid of the ball.
It also helps that the Bears hold the tenth pick, giving the Browns two top-ten selections.
The NFC is wide open, and we saw Cincinnati Bengals quarterback Joe Burrow make a giant leap in his second season, reaching the Super Bowl, so why can’t Williams do the same?
4. Dallas Cowboys
Garrett is from Texas, and right before he was about to be drafted in 2017, Garrett put out a video saying he wanted Jerry Jones to trade up and get him. Those dreams can come true, and who knows what Jones will do. Division rival Eagles are going to the Super Bowl, and the Commanders have the best quarterback in the NFC, Jayden Daniels.
The Cowboys can trade for Garrett and pair him up with pass-rusher Micah Parsons, and they can be the best pass-rushing duo in the NFL.
3. Washington Commanders
Just like the Cowboys, the Commanders could be the team in the NFC East that makes the trade for Garrett. Washington needs help at their defensive end position after trading away Chase Young and Montez Sweat at the 2023 trade deadline.
Nobody thought the Commanders would be so good this quickly, but that’s what happens when you find a franchise quarterback like Jayden Daniels.
If Washington can make a deal for Garrett, then they could be the team to beat next season in the NFC.
2. Detroit Lions
The Lions were the best team in the NFC this past season but failed to win their first playoff game. Detroit is only one of four franchises that have never reached a Super Bowl, and adding a player like Garrett could help them get there.
When star defensive end Aidan Hutchinson went down in the middle of the year, the Lion’s pass rush took a significant hit. Detroit needs a bookend pass rusher on the opposite side of Hutchinson, and if Garrett ends up there, nobody will be able to stop them.
1. Buffalo Bills
The Bills need a star defensive lineman, which is one thing holding them back from reaching a Super Bowl. Every time the Bills play the Kanas City Chiefs in the postseason, quarterback Patrick Mahomes has his way at the end of games.
If Buffalo acquires a player like Garrett, he could stop Mahomes at the end of postseason games, helping Josh Allen and the offense play a little more freely, maybe reaching the win column.
End Of Myles Garrett Rant
If the Browns decide to trade Garrett, they will have maybe 31 teams asking for his services. This is a significant time for Cleveland, and trading their star pass rusher might be the best option to get them draft picks that could turn into their franchise signal caller.
