WWE did the unthinkable during the 2025 Elimination Chamber PPV. John Cena sold his soul to The Rock, and turned heel on the WWE Universe, attacking Cody Rhodes. This got many fans both stunned and excited to see where WWE takes this story. After brainstorming the possibilities, multiple things must happen with Cena becoming a heel. From the batch of ideas, here are the Top 5 things.
With John Cena going heel, he is going to get his 17th world title reign. The perfect time to do it is at Wrestlemania 41. Yes, Cody Rhodes is still over in WWE, but his title reign is starting to get stale. Which is why it’s stunning he didn’t drop the belt to Kevin Owens at Saturday Night Main Event. It would be perfect for a Heel Cena to get the championship on the biggest WWE PPV of the year. If he loses at Wrestlemania, then WWE has lost the plot with Cena’s heel turn. He can’t take a loss on this PPV. Imagine if WWE had Ric Flair in attendance as well when Cena beats his record, that would be so awesome. He has done a lot of complaining lately, so to see a sour look on his face would be great.
It is crazy to think about, but through John Cena’s career in WWE, he has never once held the Intercontinental Championship. It’s the one title he has never won, and that needs to change. Cena should hold both the IC title and the Undisputed WWE Championship at the same time. As for who he beats, it won’t be Bron Breakker; It will be against, Dominik Mysterio. In the planned booking, Goldberg will attack Bron Breakker so Goldberg can have his retirement match with Bron. Dominik Mysterio wins the IC Title and then John Cena beats him at the next Saudi Arabia PPV. It would be perfect and cool to see Cena hold that Intercontinental belt.
If John Cena is a heel, it would feel like such a missed opportunity for him not to attack R Truth. After all, for many years R Truth has called John his childhood hero and used his moves through his matches the past few years. A dejected and delusional R-Truth comes out with Cena in the ring. He would claim that AI or CGI was used, and wanted to speak to Cena to get the truth. Imagine if R-Truth throws out the word kayfabe to hide his identity and still wouldn’t believe Cena is evil. Well, with Cena as a heel, The Rock would give Cena the sign he used at Elimination Chamber with Cody Rhodes, to attack and destroy R-Truth. This isn’t just a simple attack, it needs to be a brutal one where Truth gets taken to a hospital. It will make Cena as a heel look so dominant and vicious by going after a beloved and likable pro wrestler.
This is a match that many have wanted to see for a while. Especially with Priest now a part of the Judgement Day faction. He is still cool with R-Truth and it would be a perfect starting point for Priest to step up to defend Truth and get revenge for him. It would be the perfect next feud for Cena to have in the aftermath of Wrestlemania 41. Priest deserves this and it seems like he is directionless as he is entering a feud with Drew McIntyre. Speaking of McIntyre, maybe he becomes the 3rd man to be paired with John Cena and The Rock. Who knows, but Priest and Cena would be a good in-ring match.
No matter how Cena’s run ends, WWE has to rerun another match between him and Randy Orton. After all, Orton is Cena’s greatest rivalry of all time. With how many matches both have had together, it would be nice to see what a Heel Cena vs a Face Orton match would look like. With how long both have been fighting in WWE, fans have never seen this match done with the roles reversed. While Cena vs Orton matches have gotten stale throughout history, with how different it would look this time many more hardcore fans want to see it.
