Rybakina’s coaching situation has been a hot topic in the tennis scene, and her new coach, Davide Sanguinetti, has directed former coach Stefano Vukov’s position. Sanguinetti has stated that the 37-year-old remains a critical Kazakhstani tennis star squad member despite violating the WTA rules. The Italian coach says the star from Kazakhstan and the Croatian coach have a close relationship and that he will go on to affect her career.
In recent months, Rybakina’s coaching staff has seen several changes. Since 2019, she has separated from Vukov in August 2023. The 25-year-old has recently worked with Sanguinetti, who seeks to assist her in attaining more success on the court after a short partnership at the Australian Open with Goran Ivanisevic, Novak Djokovic’s ex-coach.
The Stefano Vukov scenario unexpectedly changed when Elena Rybakina revealed her team’s return in early 2025. Still, one day later, reports surfaced that the WTA had provisionally suspended him because of an ongoing investigation into violating the organization’s code of behavior. Consequently, Tennis Australia confirmed the WTA’s ruling and refused him permission to play the Australian Open.
The WTA has not yet made public the results of its inquiry, and the specifics of the accusations against Vukov are hazy. Rybakina has had to adapt to another coaching arrangement, as Vukov remains an issue.
Former world No.42 Davide Sanguinetti has taken over to coach Elena Rybakina, with coaching expertise at the WTA and ATP levels. Before working with up-and-coming American prospect Brandon Nakashima, he coached Go Soeda, Vince Spadea, and Dinara Safina. The Kazakhstani experienced a few health problems during the 2024 season, so she is concentrating on her physical shape.
Sanguinetti has ambitious career objectives since she thinks Rybakina has the potential to win more Grand Slam trophies. He has underlined that her talent and ability should already have been reflected in more important successes; his part will be to assist her in realizing her full potential.
Rybakina has excelled on the circuit despite the off-court disruptions. In the Abu Dhabi Open quarterfinals, the former Wimbledon champion defeated Ons Jabeur 6-2, 4-6, 7-6 (4). She aims to protect her title at the WTA 500 tournament and is now ready to meet Belinda Bencic in the semi-finals.
Though Elena Rybakina’s coaching journey has turned many times, one thing is obvious—she is resolute about expanding her career. Given that Sanguinetti is in charge and Vukov is still out of sight, her coaching staff’s interactions will be closely observed.
