As the football playoffs continue, some teams are already looking ahead to the offseason. Take a look below at one possible NFL offseason move that should happen.
A Blockbuster NFL Offseason Move
Dallas Cowboys/New York Giants
It is rare to see trades within the division, especially ones that involve big names, and can drastically impact the teams’ futures. Both the New York Giants and Dallas Cowboys are searching for answers to get back to once-successful organizations, and below is the solution.
It is no secret that Shedeur Sanders will be a top pick in this upcoming draft. His dad, Deion Sanders, is a potential coaching target for NFL teams. However, Deion has said he only wants to coach in the league if he can coach his sons.
The current coach of the Colorado Buffaloes has been in talks with Jerry Jones and the Cowboys about a potential hire, now that Mike McCarthy is out as the head coach. If Dallas were to hire Deion, they could push to trade up in the draft to get his son, Shedeur.
Here’s where the Giants come into play. New York possesses the third overall pick and needs a quarterback. The Cowboys hold the 12th pick, and have an established quarterback in Dak Prescott, who could be a viable asset to any team.
Trade Details
New York Giants Receive: QB Dak Prescott (Dallas retains 20% of Prescott’s contract), the 2025 12th Overall Pick, a 2026 First-Round Pick, and a 2027 Fifth Round Pick.
Dallas Cowboys Receive: 2025 Third Overall Pick
Giants
The Giants can fill the holes in their team with the Cowboys’ draft picks while simultaneously having a solid quarterback for a few years. They can learn from their mistake of paying Daniel Jones big money by not taking all of Prescott’s 60 million-dollar-a-year contract. New York would instantly be a playoff contender with Prescott and a few solid draft selections.
Cowboys
Giving up two first-round picks and suffering 152 million dollars in dead cap isn’t ideal, but getting a franchise quarterback and a successful coach makes it worth it. Dallas seems to be going nowhere with Prescott at the helm and they have good enough weapons to help Sanders be an elite QB early in his career. Hiring Deion can also fix a lasting problem of the Cowboys, a coach who cannot win the big games.
End Of My NFL Offseason Rant
Of course, there is the risk of Shedeur Sanders being drafted first or second overall, but he could always pull an Eli Manning. Eli, who was drafted first overall in 2004 by the Chargers, refused to play for them, and was ultimately traded to New York. It is unknown if Sanders will refuse to play for the Titans or Browns, but there have been reports that Deion only wants his son to go to certain teams.
It is time for both teams to make a big move in the NFL offseason. The Giants can bolster their roster and have a potential top-10 quarterback next season. The Cowboys can look to end their playoff failure with the Sanders Duo.
