Alabama has made itself into one of the best teams in college basketball over the past few seasons. After last year’s Final Four run, the Crimson Tide was one of the heavy-betting favorites to win the national championship this year.

One reason Alabama has been so good the past few years is its backcourt, which includes starting point guard Mark Sears, who is in his third season with the team, and fifth-year shooting guard Latrell Wrightsell Jr.

Alabama Loses Star Guard

Wrightsell has been one of the best players on the team the past two years, but the 6-foot-3 guard will be watching the rest of 2024-2025 from the bench after suffering a nasty injury in the Crimson Tide’s loss to Oregon on Saturday.

On Tuesday, head coach Nate Oats confirmed that Latrell Wrightsell suffered a ruptured Achilles tendon and will miss the remainder of the season. This is a massive blow to the team, given how big of a role he played on and off the court.

Alabama is going to have a tough road ahead of them in a tough SEC. If you thought the conference was only good for football and baseball, think again because it has some of the best basketball teams in the country.

The Crimson Tide should still be able to accomplish their goals this season, even without Wrightsell, but they will need Sears to play an even larger role than he already had coming into the season.

Nate Oats is one of the best coaches in the sport, so let’s see what he is made of now; without one of his best players, Alabama will get an early test on Wednesday when they head to Chapel Hill to take on a great North Carolina team that they eliminated last season in the Sweet Sixteen.
