Buster Posey has been cited and sought after for inspirational quotes throughout his baseball career. On the field, he was a 3-time World Series Champion and the 2012 National League MVP. Presently, he awaits his possible first-ballot induction into the Baseball Hall of Fame in Cooperstown. Buster Posey could be enshrined, as early as 2027.
Currently, the 37-year-old President of Baseball Operations for the San Francisco Giants chooses not to address this topic. He has what he perceives to be more important matters at hand, such as contending with an incredibly stacked and competitive National League West. One of Posey’s more notable quotes comes to mind when considering the obstacles facing the Giants ballclub in 2025: “You should shoot for high standards and believe they’re obtainable.”

A Giants Legend

Most experts will have the Giants and the Colorado Rockies sitting close to the bottom when offering predictions of who will rise to the top of the division. This offseason, news headlines have been filled with hot topics.
Most of which have announced new signings of high-profile free agents by division rivals, the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks. While those two clubs have added considerably to their already strong and balanced rosters, so too have the Giants.
The Giants’ record of 80-82 last season called for a relatively immediate need for a respected shot-caller. Nobody fits that profile better than Buster Posey. The 7-time All-Star retired from his playing career relatively early, after 12 MLB seasons. He cited a strong desire to leave the game while he was still on top, in terms of output and production.
Scheduled to lead off the Sacramento FanFest Q&A Stage today is President of Baseball Operations Buster Posey with other appearances by Mark Hallberg, Grant McCray, Tyler Fitzgerald, Logan Webb and Heliot Ramos.

A Clear Direction
Giants fans will forever view Posey as a personification of grit and determination. After all, he overcame a career-threatening broken leg in 2011 to ultimately return and lead a Giants dynasty that culminated in three World Series titles in five years.

Elite Defense, Improvement Up-The-Middle
As a catcher, Posey argues that a strong ballclub is created up the middle. The corners of the infield are relatively secure offensively and especially defensively, with third baseman Matt Chapman and LaMonte Wade Jr. at first. That left Posey and General Manager Zack Minasian to go to work in terms of finding a shortstop to team up with potential All-Star second baseman Tyler Fitzgerald.

A Shared Vision
Minasian utilized his contacts and capitalized on the relationships he had built as a former Executive with the Milwaukee Brewers to sign Willy Adames. Posey and the Giants’ management, including field boss Gabe Kapler, will look to Adames to clear the yard at Oracle Park. They’re looking for a similar rate to that shown in Milwaukee.
The Giants have the middle infield covered and 2024 NL Gold Glove winner Patrick Bailey behind the plate. They appear to align as well, or better up the middle, than any team in MLB. The only anomaly of this project might be rookie Grant McCray in Center Field.
McCray is a speedster with pop. He appears to have all the tools to succeed, but if help is needed in this spot, veteran Mike Yastrzemski can move over from right field.
End Of Rant:
Buster Posey might not have landed all of the big names that he had hoped to acquire for the Giants this offseason. He did, however, make waves with the moves that were made. Gabe Kapler has to be happy heading into camp, with ace Logan Webb feeling great and Justin Verlander chasing history as the number two pitcher in the rotation.
The bullpen has two elite arms at the back end, handling high-leverage situations. The bench has highly capable utility players who can fill many roles. By focusing on solid growth up the middle, Buster Posey and the San Francisco Giants look to be durable and strong.
Over the course of a long, 162-game season, it’s the teams that can boast these qualities that find themselves playing in October.
