There are always multiple professional wrestlers who are very underrated in any company they work for. One of those names I would often give the underrated label in WWE is Cedric Alexander. Especially as he is a very good worker in the ring and has had some very noticeable moments in WWE.
Cedric Alexander made a stunning announcement on his social media account, that he is departing the company.
Here is what Cedric Alexander posted on his X Account.
Thank you for the last 8 1/2 years!
Being a professional wrestler has been a dream of mine since I could form memories and I will continue to do so till the good Lord says otherwise.
Why Cedric Alexander’s Release Is Surprising

That post tells me that Cedric Alexander was released and is currently on a 90-day no-compete clause. If his contract expired, he would not have a 90-day no-compete so this was a relief. That makes re-signing him to a new deal 5 months ago a head-scratcher. That’s the only reason why this is a surprise to me because they just gave him a new deal. To be honest, Cedric Alexander was done from WWE the moment Vince McMahon split him and Shelton Benjamin away from MVP and Bobby Lashley in 2023. Ever since that happened and Shelton Benjamin got released, I can’t remember a single thing he’s done. I remember they tried putting him in a tag team with Ashantee “The Adonis,” but that went nowhere. He was paired with Je’Von Evans in NXT, but it wasn’t memorable in my opinion. He was seen on WWE Speed, but he’s mainly been on NXT. So weirdly, I am kind of surprised, but at the same time, I am not — if that makes sense.
Reflecting on Cedric Alexander’s WWE Career

Gosh for his 8.5-year career with the company, there are really two moments that stand out to me.
The first is The Hurt Business. The Covid 19 Pandemic was a weird time to watch professional wrestling, but one of my favorite moments was the birth of the Hurt Business faction between Bobby Lashley, MVP, Cedric Alexander, and Shelton Benjamin. It just worked out with the 4 together and I hated the way the faction ended. Say what you want about some of Bobby Lashley’s crazy ideas, but WWE broke up the Hurt Business way too soon. There were hints of a reunion in 2023, but that ended the moment Shelton Benjamin got released and it felt like Alexander was a dead man walking in WWE.
This is a shame because my favorite part of his WWE tenure was his involvement in the Cruiserweight Classic Tournament. I love re-watching those matches as they were brilliant and one of my favorites was Cedric Alexander vs Kota Ibushi. That match was so great, that the crowd chanted “Thank You” and “Please sign Cedric”. He was so over that Triple H would come out to show respect to him in the aftermath of that match. I remembered watching and I knew Alexander was a made man and getting that WWE Contract. It’s just a shame that the Cruiserweight division was mishandled by Vince McMahon. Remember when they tried making 205 Live a legit show, it was an absolute failure. Especially when they tried attaching Alicha Fox to him, that was just awful TV. At least he did become the Cruiserweight Champion in WWE, that is a plus. But if you haven’t go watch Cedric in those Cruiserweight Classic Matches, they were so good.
Where Could Alexander Go Next?

As to where he goes to wrestle next will be interesting. Many are already saying he is AEW/ROH bound as the Hurt Syndicate is a faction in AEW and Alexander would be perfect to plug in. I am not so confident that’s where he will end up next. Many forget that there could be bad blood between Cedric Alexander and Tony Khan. Remember the whole Big Swole controversy in the early days of AEW? Guess who is married to Big Swole, that would be Cedric Alexander. Now I am not going to assume the hate is still there as it happened many years ago and things change. Plus there is an opportunity to make money with Alexander added to the group. However, if he signs elsewhere, I would not be surprised. I can see him signing with Maple Leaf Pro Wrestling or TNA. New Japan Pro Wrestling would be a good option as well as they could use some stars to help build their promotion once Hiroshi Tanahashi retires. The only man who knows where he is going next is Cedric Alexander. I wish him nothing but the best and I will be excited to see where he wrestles next.
