Quarterback Patrick Mahomes ought to buy Creed Humphrey a drink as he goes 7-0 in Divisional games.

For the seventh straight year, the Chiefs are headed to the AFC Championship game, after beating the Houston Texans on Saturday afternoon.

Several players, such as George Karlaftis and Travis Kelce, made critical plays, but the 25-year-old Oklahoma graduate arguably brought Kansas City on top.

Creed Humphrey’s Impressive Stats

Just like the other linemen, Humphrey played 51 offensive snaps.

Humphrey was the only one to prevent a single pressure on Patrick Mahomes, though, in a game where Kansas City’s big men upfront allowed one sack, three QB hits, and eight hurries.

The usually explosive Chiefs offense was out-performed in both rushing and passing yards by Houston. The former Sooner was undoubtedly critical in moving the sticks and getting what little yards Kansas City’s offense could muster up.

According to Pro Football Focus (PFF), Humphrey had a pass-block rating of 83.5 and a run-block rating of 76.5. Both were the highest of any linemen between both teams.

On top of that, Humphrey didn’t commit any unnecessary penalties. That has also been the routine for the 2021 second-round draft pick, as he committed only one penalty throughout the season.

Humphrey protected Mahomes against a Houston defense (64.5) that had a slightly lower PFF defensive rating than the hometown Chiefs (66.6).

That only magnifies the 2024 First-Team All-Pro’s importance.

Humphrey’s performance should not be diminished by the fact the game had a couple of Kansas City-favoring calls that brought the officiating crew under scrutiny.

The first one, was the crew throwing a roughing the passer flag on what appeared to be a clean and legal hit from Houston edge rusher Will Anderson Jr. on Mahomes.

The second was a call on two defenders who came in to make a tackle on the two-time MVP, and despite that also appearing to be a legal hit, the play resulted in a 15-yard personal foul call.

Humphrey was on the field when both controversial calls happened.
