The red-hot Duke Blue Devils, winners of seven straight, will head to SMU to play their fourth ACC matchup of the season on Satruday at 2:15 ET, but one of the Blue Devils’ most important pieces will not be part of the action.
Duke Is Down Their Head Man
Minutes before tipoff, reports dropped that Duke head coach Jon Scheyer would miss the action on Saturday due to an illness and didn’t even travel with the team. Multiple sources have stated that Scheyer is battling flu-like symptoms and couldn’t travel with the team on Friday and tried to give it a go on Saturday morning but wasn’t feeling good enough.
Scheyer, in his third season as Duke’s head coach, has never missed a game on the sidelines, but the team is in great hands because assistant coach Chris Carrawell will take over for Scheyer and Carrawell played for the Blue Devils from 1996-2000 and has been on the coaching staff since 2018.
Duke has the number one defense, and SMU has the number one offense in the ACC, so it’s going to be a battle in which the squad will get to play their game and control the environment.
The Blue Devils are the favorite to win the conference and be a number-one seed in the NCAA tournament this season, and SMU is looking to spoil those ideas.
Scheyer is expected to return to the bench on Tuesday when Duke returns home to take on Pittsburgh, another great team from the ACC.
