Feyenoord has just shocked their fans as they fired head coach Brian Priske right before Champions League’s clash against AC Milan.

Feyenoord has just sacked Arne Slot’s replacement, Brian Priske, after he led the team in 33 games. The shocking move comes right before a critical match as the team is preparing to face AC Milan in the Champions League.

Priske Replacing Slot

Feyenoord signed Priske in hopes of him replacing Slot who left the club to join Liverpool. The club’s dream of finding a good replacement in Priske is over as the team ultimately decided to fire him.

Why Did Feyenoord Fire Priske?

Recent results at the club haven’t been satisfying enough. The team is fifth in the Eredivisie table. They are behind the leading Ajax by 12 points, which is a huge gap.

Not only are Feyenoord struggling in the league, but they also exited the KNVB Cup after losing against PSV Eindhoven last week.

What Are Priske’s Results With Feyenoord?

Priske managed to lead Feyenoord to a win in 18 matches out of the 33 ones that witnessed him in charge. This, however, wasn’t enough for the club.

Things have gotten worse to the point that Feyenoord’s recent win over Sparta Rotterdam was their first one in five games.

What Did The Club Say About Priske’s Departure?

The club has released a statement on their official website which stated the following as the reason for sacking Priske:

“Feyenoord and head coach Brian Priske have mutually agreed to part ways with immediate effect. The club cites the inconsistent results and a lack of chemistry as the main reasons.”

Dennis te Kloese, general and technical director of Feyenoord, also shared words of his own:

“It is very disappointing for all parties that we had to come to this decision. Although Feyenoord achieved some impressive results with Brian, especially in the UEFA Champions League, the first team’s performance has been far too inconsistent in recent months, and unfortunately, we see too little structural progress. As a professional and as a person, I still hold Brian in high esteem. However, sometimes you have to conclude that, despite everyone’s good intentions, things are just not working out, and you have reached a point where there is not enough support to continue forward together.”

The News Comes At A Bad Time

The sacking of Priske is seen by many to come at a bad time as Feyenoord prepare to face AC Milan. In the Champions League, the team finished in the 19th position which granted them a place in the knockout stages.

Now, the team is preparing to face the Italian side on Wednesday in what could only be described as a clash. Feyenoord’s fans will be hoping that things go well for them, especially with Priske’s departure.

Should The Team Have Kept Priske?

The news was met with different reactions as some of the club’s fans agreed with the decision to part ways with Priske.

Another group, however, saw the decision to be a rushed one, especially with the match against AC Milan happening soon.

In the Eredivisie, Priske managed to have 11 wins, six draws, and four defeats. These results weren’t enough to make the club keep him.

End Of My Feyenoord Rant

Fans of the club will be waiting to see who would be the team’s interim coach. They would hope that the matches against AC Milan go well. Only time would tell if the club made the right decision.
