The Green Bay Packers’ 2024-25 season came to a disappointing end following a 22-10 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles on the road. The team finished 11-6 and earned a playoff birth for the second year under the Jordan Love era. Unfortunately Green Bay failed to win a playoff game and will now enter the offseason with big questions about whether this team can take a step forward and become a Super Bowl contender. The Packers are projected to have 62.5 million dollars in cap space entering free agency. This should allow general manager Brian Gutekunst to go all-in and attract some top free agents to Titletown.

Entering the season the Packers felt confident with their young wide receiver corps headlined by Christian Watson, Jayden Reed, and Romeo Doubs. Unfortunately, Reed didn’t make a big leap like many thought he would, while Doubs made some great plays but wasn’t consistent. While Watson improved and showed his deep threat, he suffered a torn ACL in Week 18, which will unfortunately keep him out most of next season. It’s clear Green Bay needs a true WR1 for Jordan Love. The Packers wide receivers had the third most drops in the NFL this season. While there are talks about bringing back Davante Adams, the Packers should explore signing Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin.

Chris Godwin Would Give Jordan Love An Experienced WR1

The Packers should sign Chris Godwin
The Packers should sign Chris Godwin

The 28-year-old Chris Godwin has spent his whole career in Tampa Bay, playing behind Mike Evans. Despite not being the main target on his team, Godwin has been very consistent entering 2024 with three straight 1,000+ yard seasons before suffering a season-ending injury this year. With a chance to fully recover by Week 1, Godwin would be able to finally be the go-to guy and get a chance to have his best season yet.

Godwin broke out in 2019 with 1,333 receiving yards and nine touchdowns. Since then, the former Penn State wide receiver has established himself as a big contributor in his eight years in Tampa Bay. His biggest issue has been staying healthy. Godwin has missed 19 games since 2020 and has only finished a full season once in the past six seasons.

Nonetheless, signing Godwin would be a great move for the championship-driven Packers. With a Super Bowl title and a lot of experience, this signing would give Jordan Love an immediate playmaker. It also would bring veteran leadership to the wide receiver position and add proven consistency. This season proved that Green Bay wasn’t ready for a deep postseason run, but improving its offense after an embarrassing showing in the Wild Card round should be a priority.
