Alabama quarterback Jalen Milroe had a rollercoaster of a season. After leading the Crimson Tide to a SEC title and a Rose Bowl loss as a first-year starter, his second season under center was supposed to be one for the ages.
Alabama head coach Nick Saban walked into the sunset this past off-season and took off his coaching hat. The program hired Washington head coach Kalen DeBoer, who had just played in the national title and lost to Michigan.
DeBoer took quarterback Michael Penix Jr. and made him a Top 10 NFL pick, and he was supposed to come into year one with Milroe, who is supposed to have more talent than Penix and make him a star, but the exact opposite happened.
Jalen Milroe, who is a great runner and even has been compared to a better athlete than Lamar Jackson, didn’t figure it out with his arm or decision-making this season, throwing 16 touchdowns to 11 interceptions, and his crucial decision-making cost them in games against Oklahoma and Michigan.
Jalen Milroe Is Making The Right Decision
Many thought Milroe should use his extra year of eligibility and return to school in 2025, but on Thursday, just two days after playing his final game for the Crimson Tide, he declared for the NFL Draft.
The 2025 quarterback class is not a great one, and two guys sit at the top in Miami’s Cam Ward and Colorado’s Shedeur Sanders; both are expected to be taken inside the first five picks, but after that, there aren’t many options, and Milroe could be the third guy taken.
With this being a lousy quarterback class and Milroe having elite traits that need a lot of work, teams are going to fall in love with him and try to turn him into something, and if a team doesn’t play him in year one and let him sit than maybe they can turn him into the player he was supposed to be.
Milroe could be the next breakout quarterback in the NFL if he sits for a while and gets drafted by the right team, but if he is rushed into the mix, then he will most likely be out of the league in no time.
