Ruben Amorim gave a scathing criticism of his Manchester United team, and Jamie Carragher shared his thoughts on the manager’s comments.
With Manchester United’s terrible results, tensions have been high and Amorim is certainly feeling them. After some comments he made about his team, Jamie Carragher made sure to voice his own opinion as well.
What Did Ruben Amorim Say About Manchester United?
After Manchester United’s 3-1 defeat to Brighton at Old Trafford, Amorim voiced his frustration with his side’s performance. The coach said that this Manchester United team is the worst in club history. His comments have left fans and the media shocked because of how harsh they were.
The defeat has been a heavy one as it left Manchester United in the 13th position in the Premier League. Of course, Amorim was left unsatisfied and frustrated by his side’s recent results.
What Did Jamie Carragher Say About Manchester United?
Carragher had words of his own to share about Manchester United after listening to Ruben Amorim’s comments. The former Liverpool player saw the comments as unnecessary, especially since they might affect the team’s confidence which is already not in a good place.
Speaking on Sky Sports, Carragher said:
“I don’t know Man Utd’s history as well as Gary Neville but I must say it was one of the most bizarre and ridiculous things I’ve ever heard a manager say. Why you would make a comment like that… that’s the type of comment a pundit would make, someone in my position, and you’d have to defend that. I don’t know what he gains from that, what the benefit is. We all know it’s a poor Man Utd team.
They’d lost another game at home to Brighton, they’d done that in the last couple of years anyway. We know it’s a tough season, we know it’s a poor team. He has just loosened it up. That will be a quote that follows him for the rest of the season. He said to the journalists there: ‘I’ve given you your headline’. Why you would like to do that as a manager, I will never know.”
Carragher Doesn’t Have Sympathy For Manchester United’s Players
Continuing his comments, Carragher shared that he doesn’t have sympathy for Manchester United’s players. He also called them “a joke.”

“It doesn’t help you confidence-wise going forwards. I’ve got not much sympathy for the players in the Man Utd dressing room, they’ve been a joke for a few years now. A few weeks ago, after they played Liverpool, where Lisandro Martinez was talking about the mentality that was different – I nearly couldn’t stop laughing when I saw that. The amount of times Manchester United have basically thrown the towel in with bad performances over the last four or five years.
What I would say is how can the manager go into the dressing room between now and the end of the season and continually try to build them up and give them belief to beat the opposition, whoever they come up against, when he has said they’re one of the worst teams in Man Utd history? At no point can I see what he’ll gain from that.”
Carragher Thinks Manchester United’s Management Will Talk To Ruben Amorim
Carragher has also stated that he believes that Amorim will be talked to by Manchester United’s management because of his bizarre comments.
“I’d be very surprised if the powers-that-be above him aren’t having a strong word with him. You can’t speak like that as manager of Manchester United. You don’t pour petrol on the flames.”
What’s Next For Manchester United?
There is some truth to Carragher’s opinion about Amorim. With Manchester United already struggling, it doesn’t benefit anyone to label the current team the worst in club history.
If Amorim though this was some kind of motivation, we will have to see if it will actually work or if the performances will stay the same if not worse.
