The Kentucky Wildcats women’s basketball (12-1, 1-0) team kicked off their Southeastern Conference (SEC) play with a dominant 91-69 win over the Mississippi State Bulldogs. This victory was historic, as the team set a new program record for three-pointers made in a single game with 18.

Dazia Lawrence and Georgia Amoore led the charge, becoming the first pair of teammates in program history to make seven three-pointers each in a game. Lawrence finished with 28 points on 7-11 shooting from behind the arc, while Amoore had 27 points and nine assists while shooting 7-10 three-point FGs.

Teonni Key also had a solid game, with a 10-point, 13-rebound double-double (6th on the season) and four blocks. Amelia Hassett added 14 points and nine rebounds to the team’s effort.

The energy in the Historic Memorial Coliseum was electric. The crowd was on the edge of their seats as Dazia Lawrence and Georgia Amoore put on a shooting clinic. Kentucky scored the most points in an SEC opening game (91) and tied their most significant margin of victory (22) in an SEC opener.

Mississippi State came into the game 13-1 on the season with their only three-point loss to still-undefeated Georgia Tech. Though unranked in the AP Poll, the Bulldogs were 26th in the new NET rankings coming into the matchup. Eniya Russell, who transferred from Kentucky after the coaching change in the off-season, scored 13 points and six rebounds in her return to Lexington for the Bulldogs.
