The Detroit Lions will travel to San Francisco to take on the 49ers in the Week 17 Edition of NFL Monday Night Football. Two teams with completely different aspirations this late into the season, both battling injury troubles. Do the 49ers have what it takes to play spoiler, or can the Detroit offense continue to outpace their injury concerns?

Detroit Lions (13-2)

The Lions look to win on Monday night to regain the top spot in the NFC North. With three of the four teams in the NFC North already clinching a playoff berth, Detroit is in control of their destiny regarding winning the division and a first-round bye. While the Lions boast a top-five run defense, their 27th-rank pass defense remains a sore spot. Allowing 32 ppg over the last three, the Lions may be in a sticky spot coming down the stretch. They will hope the offense continues to be elite with running back David Montgomery and wide receiver Kalif Raymond officially ruled out.

San Francisco 49ers (6-9)

The 49ers can relate to battling through injuries this season, and despite being scrappy through the issues, they have lacked the output to make up for it. With an average scoring margin of -1.2 this year, the 49ers have nothing to play for in this one. As a team in the mediocre middle, it will be interesting to see how the offseason plays out for San Francisco.

NFL Week 17 Monday Night Football

Bodog has the Lions as -3.5 favorites on the road. This may be larger if not for Detroit’s defensive issues over the last few weeks. Over the entire season, the Lions’ average scoring margin is +14.1 compared to San Francisco’s. With only the better team with something to play for, the -3.5 may be the play.
