The Detroit Lions couldn’t ask for a much better regular season than they had in 2024. They capped off another NFC North Division title, defeating the Minnesota Vikings, 31-9 in week 18. Quarterback Jared Goff led the squad to a 15-2 finish, and the MVP-caliber star looks poised to drive his team right out of the Motor City, and on to the Super Bowl.

Goff went 27-of-33 passing, good for 231 yards, one touchdown, and two interceptions during the game. In the process, he became the only quarterback in franchise history to complete at least 72% of his passes while throwing for more than 4,500 yards in a season. Despite the accomplishments, the QB knows he has bigger fish to fry in the postseason.

“It’s not the cherry on top,” Goff said of the milestone. “Not yet.”

Lost in Los Angeles

This is a completely different Jared Goff than we saw in his final days with the Los Angeles Rams. The former number-one overall pick in the 2016 NFL Draft, he would lead the team to The Big Game in just his third season. Ultimately, he and the Rams would fall to Tom Brady and the New England Patriots, 13-3, in Super Bowl LIII.

Throughout the next two seasons, the young passer fell out of favor with head coach Sean McVay as his play suffered. Within two years of taking the Rams to the pinnacle of success, Goff was now viewed by fans and media as a potential washout.

Eventually, Goff was part of a huge deal for the Lions’ Matthew Stafford, who would lead LA to a Super Bowl victory. Not long after, the Rams began to dismantle their veteran team and re-group, while Goff was leading a renaissance in Detroit. Armed with a new environment and a fiery but inventive coach in Dan Campbell, Goff has proven that he wasn’t just a ‘one-hit wonder’.

Jared Goff Has Been Magical In The Motor City

Even with all his success, Jared Goff would be the first to tell you the Lions aren’t just a one-man show. Campbell is considered one of the best young coaches in The League. Offensive coordinator Ben Johnson and defensive coordinator Aaron Glenn are both solid NFL head-coaching candidates.

Young, emerging stars like receivers Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jameson Williams, along with explosive running back Jamhyr Gibbs, provide him with plenty of options. Second-year tightened Sam LaPorta is already an elite tight end. And when the Detroit offense is humming, it’s music to the fans’ ears.

End Of Lions Rant

For Goff, 30, the time is now. He’d reached his peak years as a passer. He’s been striking all the right notes in Motown, and he’s got a chorus of Motor City Maniacs backing him up.

And before the song of this season is over?
Jared Goff and the Silver & Blue might just end up going platinum.
