The Louisville Cardinals went on the road Saturday to take on the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets in Atlanta, Georgia. Although the Cards battled, they ultimately came up a little short. Don’t let this loss fool you, the Cardinals are still the real deal.

Good Things Come To An End

December 14th, 2024, was the last day the Louisville Cardinals lost during a month-and-a-half-long win streak that saw 10 straight wins. That wasn’t the only streak that died on Saturday. The Cardinals had a 134-game winning streak when winning by more than 10 points at halftime.

Terrence Edwards got it going early for the Cards having 10 of their first 15 points just under six minutes into the game. Hepburn at one point in the first half would go on an 8-0 run by himself making two threes in that span. Terrence Edwards and Chucky Hepburn headed into the locker room with 13 points a piece in the first half. Cards would lead 38-28.

The Cards started the second half hot, but from there, things would fall apart. Louisville looked a bit lost on offense in a couple of possessions and seemed to really try to get something going by playing ISO ball from 15:11 left in the second half until 8:18 left. The Cards would only score two points in that time frame, giving Georgia Tech a 21-3 run in just six minutes and fifty-three seconds.

Louisville would fight back but only to come up short with a final score of 70-77 in favor of the Yellow Jackets.

Notables

Despite Louisville’s tough loss, we did have some players that stood out in today’s game. Louisville had four Cardinals score in the double figures on Saturday. There is for sure some optimism on the horizon for the Cards.

  • Terrence Edwards Jr.: 22 points, 3 rebounds, 1 assist, 8-16 from the field, 3-6 from behind the three-point line.
  • Chucky Hepburn: 17 points, 4 rebounds, 5 assists, 6-14 from the field, 3-7 from behind the arc.
  • J’Vonne Hadley: 16 points, 2 rebounds, 3 assists, 6-10 from the field, 2-5 from behind the three-point line.
  • Aboubacar Traore: 10 points, 8 rebounds, 1 assist, 3-4 from the field

A good list of guys who contributed, the Cards just came up short. I tend to be a glass-half-full guy in this scenario and want to emphasize the stumble word in the title. This is just a hiccup. One bad showing, should not reflect the potential this team has moving into the future on a push to make the NCAA Tournament in March.
