Manchester United’s head coach, Ruben Amorim, has come to Rasmus Hojlund’s defense amid goal drought.
Manchester United’s struggles this season have frustrated their fans, who have started pointing fingers at players and naming different reasons behind the bad form. One player getting heavily criticized is Rasmus Hojlund. The criticism led Ruben Amorim to defend Hojlund against the angry supporters.
Why Are Manchester United Fans Angry At Rasmus Hojlund
The wrath of Manchester United fans directed at Hojlund comes amidst the player’s recent bad form. In about 16 appearances, Hojlund found the net only twice, which isn’t a satisfying number. His goal drought has been going on for a while, with his last goal being the one against Viktoria Plzen.
The anger of Manchester United’s fans only increased when Hojlund missed a golden opportunity during the team’s match against Liverpool.
The one-on-one chance saw Hojlund facing Alisson, but Hojlund ended up missing the net. This golden opportunity would have given Manchester United the lead in such a crucial game. The missed chance was followed by fans voicing their disappointment. Some even went as far as asking the club to terminate Hojlund’s contract.
Manchester United’s Ruben Amorim Defended Hojlund

After the harsh criticism, Ruben Amorim came to the Denmark international’s rescue. The head coach defended his player and the goal draught he has been going through. Amorim refused to blame one single player for the whole team’s failure.
While speaking to reporters, Amorim made sure to voice his thoughts:
I think it’s a team problem. You can see it. It’s not just from now, it’s from the past. So we have clearly a lack of goals and a lack of threat. When you threaten the opponents, the opponents maybe don’t press you so high. So everything is connected.
Amorim also stated that he believes that Hojlund will return to his previous form.
All the players have moments in this season. I think when we started this journey together, Rasmus was the player that was always scoring. So he can come back in the next game, we will see.
Amorim Believes That Manchester United’s Performance Is A Team Problem
The Portuguese coach continues his talk by stating how it is a team problem and not a Rasmus problem.
But I think it’s more a team problem than a Rasmus problem. This is something that you can see from the past. We were in the past a team of transition and we still are. You can feel it. To create chances in the final third, we struggle a lot.
But for that, I think it’s the most – I said it before the game – the most difficult moment to train is against low blocks, trying to create situations. So I think it’s a team that feels more joy to play, waiting for the play and then in transition creating problems. So it’s something that we have to change. To change we need training. So to have time to change, also we need to win games, we try to do that.
Hojlund Could Help Manchester United
Despite his recent form, Hojlund could still be beneficial for Manchester United. The striker has come to the team’s rescue several times. He can still do that. What matters now is that Hojlund receives support from the Red Devils fans so he can return to his previous form.
