Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford has spoken out after being dropped from the squad along with Alejandro Garnacho for last Sunday’s Manchester Derby. Manchester United ultimately took all three points, with manager Ruben Amorim demonstrating why his bold decision was justified.
The winger’s lifelong association with the club might end soon, as Manchester United have reportedly put the 27-year-old up for sale and would be receptive to offers as soon as the January transfer window starts. Rashford appeared quite content after his club won the Derby, as reflected in his recent Instagram post, but he has made things vividly clear in a recent interview.
As The Guardian reported, Marcus Rashford straightforwardly claimed, “I think I’m ready for a new challenge and the next steps.” he told Harry Winter. Rashford said about being dropped from the Derby, “It’s disheartening to be left out of a derby, but it’s happened, we won the game, so let’s move on. It’s disappointing, but I’m also someone who, as I’ve gotten older, can deal with setbacks. What am I going to do about it? Sit there and cry about it. Or do my best the next time I’m available.”
The winger feels ready for a fresh challenge, considering things haven’t worked out for him for the past two years. He shares his disappointment and sudden surprise at being left out of such a huge game but insists he’s happy that his team won. Despite recently signing a five-year contract extension worth £325k per week in July 2023, the born and bred Manc feels he needs a fresh start to his career.
“If I know that a situation is already bad, I’m not going to make it worse,” Marcus Rashford told Harry Winter, “I’ve seen how other players have left in the past, and I don’t want to be that person. When I leave, I’ll make a statement, and it will be from me.”
“I’m halfway through my career,” Rashford said. “I don’t expect my peak to be now. I’ve had nine years so far in the Premier League, and that’s taught me a lot that’s helped me grow as a player and as a person. So, I don’t have any regrets from the last nine years. I won’t have any regrets going forward because I take things day by day, and sometimes bad things happen, and sometimes good things happen. I just try AND keep a fine balance.” Asked if the best is yet to come. “100%. That’s my mentality.”

The new manager has implemented a ruthless philosophy that centers around hardworking players with grit and determination, something the 27-year-old has lacked and has been frequently criticized for.
The United star has reportedly been put up for sale, but it is highly unlikely a deal will happen within the January transfer window. The most significant factor behind that is the substantial weekly wages Rashford earns at Manchester United.
