After requesting a trade out of Cleveland, defensive end Myles Garrett has reportedly signed an extension with the Browns. He previously announced his desire to play for a true Super Bowl contender, requesting out of Cleveland. Garrett’s change in position has fans pondering: Was this a business decision, is Myles Garrett easily persuaded, or is he naive enough to think the Browns could be a serious contender over the length of the extension?

Myles Garrett Contract Negotiations

On February 3, 2025, after spending eight years in Cleveland, Myles Garrett asked out. Eight long years wasted on one of the best of all time at the position. Considering he was selected for six Pro Bowls over that time, it’s a shame he has not even sniffed contention. Garrett has only one playoff win in three appearances. The consensus was that he had paid his dues, and earned his right to ask out of such a pitiful organization.

Everything changed Sunday morning. The Browns announced that the two sides came to terms on a record-breaking contract, surpassing the new record set by defensive end Maxx Crosby for the highest-paid non-quarterback. Garrett has reportedly agreed to a four-year extension, averaging $40 million per year, which includes $123.5 million guaranteed. Money talks, as the saying goes.

End Of My Myles Garrett Rant

Whether Myles Garrett lied, planned it, or was persuaded by a record-breaking amount of money, one thing is clear. Winning a Super Bowl is not of the utmost importance to Myles Garrett. The Browns have had eight years with the man, and the team has delivered no success. Cleveland has plenty of holes to fill on the field and some stiff contracts that are handcuffing the organization.

It would take a miracle for the Cleveland Browns to be relevant during this contract, and Myles Garrett is smart enough to know that. Nobody can blame the man for securing his bag, but he did speak in contradiction to his actions.
