The Browns could be losing six-time pro bowler Myles Garrett. He cited a “desire to win” as his reason for requesting a trade. Where does Cleveland go from here?

The Browns Dysfunction Led To Garrett’s Trade Request

Myles Garrett has been on a losing Browns team for years and has decided he can’t handle it anymore.

Cleveland only has two winning seasons and one playoff win since Garrett was drafted in 2017. The 2023 Defensive Player of the Year wants to go to a team that will win. The Browns have other issues that they are dealing with besides this. Their search for a QB continues after the Deshaun Watson experiment didn’t pan out.

It is pretty clear why Garrett didn’t want to be a part of the organization any longer. They went 0-16 in his first year with the team, and the Browns didn’t give him any help on the defensive line. Even with an awful team and all the QB drama, Garrett still performed at a high level. The six-time Pro Bowler was second in the league this past season with 14 sacks; he also forced three fumbles.

Upcoming Draft Decisions Are Critical For Browns Future

Myles Garrett, Abdul Carter

The Cleveland Browns now are in a difficult position. If Garrett leaves, do they go after a Defensive End in the draft, or do they solve their QB woes and get a premier signal caller with their top-five pick? Let’s roll with the first of the two options and say Garrett leaves for a contender. The Browns’ main target in the draft to fill his place with their number-two pick would be edge rusher Abdul Carter from Penn State.

Carter had 12 sacks this past season and two forced fumbles. He certainly would be a good replacement for Garrett if the Browns decide to go in that direction. On the other hand, the Browns could decide to solve their QB situation. They will have a multitude of options with the number-two pick, with either Cam Ward or Shedeur Sanders available, as well as Jaxson Dart, Dillon Gabriel, and others available. The Browns will likely choose either Sheduer or Ward, whichever is available. The Titans hold the number-one pick, and they also need a QB after Will Levis has proven that he doesn’t have it.

Myles Garrett, Cam Ward

This will certainly be one of the biggest drafts in Browns history. It could potentially leave them with a star on both sides of the ball if they draft a DE early and then get a QB later. This is a huge opportunity for the Browns to turn their organization around, and prove to Myles Garrett that he made a mistake by leaving them.

There are a lot of possibilities here in Cleveland, and it will be interesting to see what they do. It will be talked about either way, if they made the right decision or not. Will the Browns recover from Garrett’s likely departure? That remains to be seen as the draft is set for April 24th in Green Bay.

End Of My Myles Garrett Rant

The ball is in the Browns’ court on what they want to do with Garrett, who still has two years left on his contract. There is the expectation that the Browns will find a way to mess this up because they are the Browns. They certainly have options on where they want to go after Garrett likely leaves. Cleveland just didn’t put him in a position to succeed. They had seven years to find someone to pair with him on the defensive line and failed. It isn’t too shocking that he wants to leave. They don’t value his talent, and he believes he would be better off elsewhere.
