NFL Free Agency is in full swing! The tampering period is over and players are signing contracts with their new teams. Some of these teams made huge moves, while others didn’t do much at all. Who are the biggest winners from NFL Free Agency, and who are the losers?
Winner: Washington Commanders
First things first, the Commanders traded for wide receiver Deebo Samuel, and all it cost them was a fifth-round pick. Samuel is a complete steal and can return to form with Jayden Daniels under center.
The Commanders also traded for veteran left tackle Laremy Tunsil. Tunsil was the strongest part of the Texans’ o-line last year, and this is a great move for Washington. The Commanders sent a package of picks over, but nothing extensive. Daniels has wonderful protection going into 2025, and he’ll surely take a step forward because of it.
On the defensive side, Washington added safety Will Harris and defensive tackle Javon Kinlaw. Jonathan Jones and Eddie Goldman were also brought in on one-year deals. The Commanders are making big moves. With an already stacked roster, and the NFL Draft next month, they will only get scarier.
Loser: Dallas Cowboys
It’s the same story every year. The Dallas Cowboys refuse to make big moves in the offseason, and 2025 is no different. Dallas re-signed guys like Bryan Anger, CJ Goodwin, and Osa Odighizuwa, among others. The problem is they refuse to spend.
Former Denver Broncos running back Javonte Williams is headed to Dallas on a one-year, $3 million deal. They’ve also picked up defensive tackle Solomon Thomas, defensive end Payton Turner, and guard Robert Jones.
The Cowboys have become notorious for staying quiet in the offseason, believing in the roster they have. That hasn’t paid off for them yet this century. This offseason looks to be more of the same.
Winner: Chicago Bears
It’s become something of a running joke that the Chicago Bears are the NFL’s offseason champions. They make big moves every year and fall short when the season begins. Their 2025 has been insane so far, so let’s just rattle off the names.
DE Dayo Odeyingbo, C Drew Dalman, DT Grady Jarrett, LG Joe Thuney, and RG Jonah Jackson are all joining Ben Johnson’s Bears. Immediately addressing the horrendous offensive line is a genius move by Chicago.
Caleb Williams gets a lot of flack for how the 2024 season went, but that’s bound to happen with a number one overall pick. He showed talent and toughness last year, and the Bears are capitalizing on that. They have their QB of the future, now they’re finally building around him.
Loser: San Francisco 49ers
The 49ers are blowing up the roster, and it’s extremely confusing. They’ve traded away Deebo Samuel and released DT Javon Hargrave, DT Maliek Collins, FB Kyle Juszczyk, and DE Leonard Floyd. They’ve also lost plenty to free agency.
OT Jaylon Moore, RB Elijah Mitchell, DB Talanoa Hufanga, OL Aaron Banks, CB Charvarius Ward, LB Dre Greenlaw, CB Isaac Yiadom, and QB Joshua Dobbs have all found new teams. Yes, that list is insanely long, and yes Niners fans are hurting.
The 49ers’ Super Bowl window might’ve been closing, but they’ve seemingly slammed it shut. They still have Brock Purdy, Christian McCaffrey, and Brandon Aiyuk, so at least there’s that.
Winner: Minnesota Vikings
The Vikings are under the radar as one of the biggest winners of 2025 Free Agency. They’re still a potential landing spot for Aaron Rodgers, but it seems that JJ McCarthy will be getting the keys to the kingdom.
Minnesota picked up offensive linemen Will Fries and Ryan Kelly, along with DT Javon Hargrave, and CBs Isaiah Rodgers and Tavierre Thomas. They’re also bringing back veteran Harrison Smith for his 14th NFL season.
The Vikings are looking to the future after moving on from Sam Darnold. They’re building around JJ McCarthy and that’s the smart thing to do. Expectations are high for Minnesota, but they seem up to the task.
Loser: Cincinnati Bengals
Including the Bengals on this list might not be fair. Cincy has brought back some familiar faces like DT BJ Hill, CB Marco Wilson, DT Cam Sample, and even RB Samaje Perine. The problem with the Bengals is they’re not trying to keep their stars.
Ja’Marr Chase is still looking for a contract extension, and the market is only going up. Myles Garrett just got $40 million/year, and Ja’Marr Chase will likely want more than that. Tee Higgins was franchised tagged for the second year in a row as well, proving that the Bengals won’t just pay the man.
Cincy is also losing DE Sam Hubbard to retirement, and looking to trade 2024 NFL sack leader Trey Hendrickson. This doesn’t feel like rocket science, pay your stars while you have them and make another Super Bowl run.
End Of My Free Agency Rant
The NFL Offseason is hitting its stride. Post-Super Bowl is always a slow time, now Free Agency is hot leading into the NFL Draft. The winners on this list are cooking, but the losers need to make some serious changes if they want to succeed.
