2022 MLB Legitimate World Series Contenders Mid-Season Update American League

The 2022 MLB season is already two months underway and it is moving fast as we are already moving towards the middle of June as well. This may be one of the most competitive seasons in some time as there are several teams who could potentially compete for a World Series at the moment. While you have the usual front runners like the New York Yankees, Houston Astros, and Los Angeles Dodgers,.

Also, some surprising teams have come out of nowhere like the Minnesota Twins, Milwaukee Brewers, and Toronto Blue Jays, not to mention the New York Mets improvement. With most of the teams sixty games into their seasons, it’s time to look at their current odds to win the commissioner’s trophy in October.

2022 MLB Inlook: American League

New York Yankees

The New York Yankees have been the best team over the course of the first two months of the 2022 MLB season. They enter Monday, June 13th with a record of 44-16 and on a four-game winning streak. The Yankees are a dynasty that wins a world series on average every decade or so, but it has been 13 years since they last lifted the title and stood atop the mountaintop of baseball. This could be the year that it changes as Nestor Cortes, Gerrit Cole, and Jameson Taillon are pitching lights out, and Aaron Judge is mashing the ball out of the park.

Houston Astros

The Astros are back once again as one of the top teams in the MLB, and once again regardless of what happens everyone will say that they cheated to win their world series. Justin Verlander has turned back the clock and pitching like his old self, while guys like Yordan Alverez and Jose Altuve are tearing the cover off of the baseball with 17 and 12 home runs respectively. They will be gunning for their sixth straight American League Championship Series berth this season. They enter June 13th with a record of 37-23 and in first place in the American League West division.

Tampa Bay Rays

The Tampa Bay Rays are quietly flying under the radar thus far into the 2022 MLB season as they come into the second Monday in June with a record of 35-25 and in third place in the American League East division. They haven’t been crushing the ball, as evidenced by their team-leading home run hitter only having seven, but they are still getting wins and have a positive run difference at the moment. Shane McClanahan is leading the way on the mound as he is 7-2 with a 1.87 ERA, while Randy Arozarena has been leading the way on offense again with his 31 Runs Batted In.

Toronto Blue Jays

Much like their divisional rival, the Tampa Bay Rays, the Jays have been a bit under the radar but get more attention due to the star-studded roster they have. Vladdy Guerrero and George Springer have carried the load on the offensive end, while Alek Manoah is 7-1 on the mound and pitching lights out every five days. The Jays will be looking to get back to the World Series for the first time since the early 1990s as they were one of the favorites coming into the 2022 MLB season.

Minnesota Twins

The Twins have been the biggest surprise of the 2022 MLB season as they weren’t expected to be on top of the American League Central division. They are by far the weakest of the three division leaders at the moment and will also likely be surpassed at some point in the season by either the Chicago White Sox or Cleveland Guardians. For the time being, however, Byron Buxton is carrying the load with his 17 home runs. While Joe Ryan is holding it down on the mound with a 5-2 record in eight appearances on the 2022 MLB season.
