2022 Packers Entertain The Gang Green: Week Six Game Preview
The Green Bay Packers will play the New York Jets for the first time since 2018.
“For the second straight season, the Packers have been eliminated from the playoffs. But the team still has a fight as Aaron Rodgers finds Davante Adams into the end zone for a 16-yard touchdown! Packers win 44-38 over the Jets in overtime!” This was in December of 2018, the last time Green Bay played New York.
Now four years later, both teams meet up again and for the first time in ages, both (mainly the Jets) have winning records. Fresh off an offensive explosion against Miami, in which they scored 40 points, the New York Jets (3-2) are ready to extend the two-game win-streak against the Green Bay Packers (3-2) who just lost to the New York Giants in London in embarrassing fashion.
Quarterback Matchup: Aaron Rodgers (GB) vs Zach Wilson (NYJ)
Aaron Rodgers is looking to continue his first-half performance from last week when he threw two touchdown passes and led the Packers to 20 points. He would like to forget the second half in which the team was held scoreless. Meanwhile, Wilson has played well since he came back from injury against the Steelers. The Jets are 2-0 under the young signal-caller this season although Wilson has a 1:2 touchdown to interception ratio. Wilson isn’t as fast as Lamar Jackson but he can run when he needs to as well as catch touchdown passes too.
Skill Position Matchup: Running Back Duos
Now here are two teams with pretty good rushing duos. Packers running back Aaron Jones leads the way after his breakout 2019 season. Since then the 2017 fifth-round pick has been a star for Green Bay as he has nearly 400 yards in five games but only one touchdown run. Behind him is AJ Dillon aka quadzilla. The 2020 second-round pick shows flashes of Derrick Henry and can get you three to five yards if you need them.
On the other side of the ball, Breece Hall is looking like a star for the Jets. He is coming off an18 carry 97 rushing-yard performance as he now leads the way for New York. Although the Jets spent a high pick on Michael Carter last year, he now is RB2. He is just above the 150-yard mark on the season and hasn’t had a game over 70 yards this season. Last week, Hall had some long rushes while Carter finished the drive. As mentioned before, in their last meeting, the Packers defeated the Jets in OT. There is some history between these teams as Packers HOF QB Brett Favre was traded to the Jets in 2008.
America’s Pick: Packers Narrowly Defeat Jets
Although the Packers are favored by 7.5 points, many expect the game to be reasonably close. With the Jets winning two games and Green Bay struggling against the Patriots and Giants, even some believe it’s New York’s game to lose. It should be an interesting battle but very embarrassing should the Jets win.
Official Prediction: Packers 27, Jets 24
The Packers’ offense hasn’t scored more than 27 points this year and I’m not expecting them to this time either. The Jets have held the Tua-less Dolphins to 12 points and the Steelers to 20. Hoping this is a make-right game for Green Bay so we will see if the offense shows up. Meanwhile, Joe Berry needs to fix the defense. The second-half defensive collapse against the Giants allowed 17 points against an offense missing a lot of weapons. Rashan Gary has been dealing with an injury that has hurt the defense even more. Green Bay needs a win here.
