2022 Packers Preseason: Takeaways From Game Three
Last night, the Green Bay Packers traveled to Arrowhead Stadium to face the Kansas City Chiefs in the final game of the preseason. Here is a recap of what went right and what went wrong for the Packers.
Aaron Rodgers once again didn’t suit up so Jordan Love got to play most of the game as he has done in the previous two preseason games while also mixing in some of Danny Etling. The defense sat all of its starters except rookie first-round pick Quay Walker. There were times during the game that resulted in a head shake, covering of the eyes, and disbelief.
Overview Of The Packers Versus Chiefs Game
The game started out slow for both sides as neither could get any movement on the offensive side until Kansas City scored a field goal late in the first quarter. The second quarter was electric as both teams traded touchdowns and the Packers added a field goal halfway through the quarter to tie it. With less than a minute left, Green Bay was trying to score when Jordan Love overthrew a receiver and was picked off. The Chiefs started the third quarter with a touchdown drive and Green Bay could barely move the ball ten yards. After that, no one could get down the field to score.
In the fourth quarter, getting past midfield was a struggle for both squads as the defenses started playing better. The Packers were still down 10-17 towards the end of the quarter when stuff started to go right for them. Danny Etling and the Packers offense were moving the ball well downfield with the help of a defensive pass interference called on third down that helped keep the drive alive. With 36 seconds left, Etling passed a dart just beyond the first down line and Samori Toure was hit early by the defender, but, no flag was thrown. A flag there would’ve extended the drive and could’ve resulted in a touchdown to tie.
Packers Jordan Love: Can Fans Trust Him?
Even though Jordan Love has continued to receive praise on and off the field from coaches and other players, the fans do not agree. Yes, he may have improved from last year but he still isn’t starter material after what he’s done in the preseason against backups. In the first preseason game, he was inconsistent and threw three interceptions. In the second game, he avoided throwing interceptions but he was still inconsistent. In this game, his completion percentage was slightly higher than the previous two games but he overthrew his wide receiver and into triple coverage at the end of the second half that resulted in an interception.

Who Will Be The Packers RB3?
The buzz after last night’s game is who will take over the third running back spot while Kylin Hill is still dealing with an injury. Aaron Jones sits firmly has the number one running back and AJ Dillon at two. Patrick Taylor and Tyler Goodson have been almost identical in preseason which will lead to a tough call by the coaching staff since only one of them will probably make roster cuts. Not only were their rushing attempts and yards similar, they were also great as receivers with zero dropped balls. Dexter Williams was also brought back into the mix to fight for a roster spot but he wasn’t able to move the ball last night.
Patrick Taylor will be entering his second season in the NFL. He appeared in nine games last year for the Packers and played well enough to stick around in his limited appearances. Tyler Goodson is a rookie running back from the University of Iowa. He signed as an undrafted free agent four months ago with the Packers.
Special Teams Poor Gameplay Continues For The Packers
Same story different week. Special teams is a need for the Packers this season after an abysmal performance last year. Between muffed punts or kicks, poor running after the catch, and forced fumbles, Green Bay cannot catch a break. There is hope with Amari Rodgers on special teams, he has shown flashes here and there. Amari took over the returning duties during the second half last season after disaster struck numerous times. If the squad can fix their mistakes and improve, it’d help the overall quality of the team. When special teams messes up and turns the ball over, it wears out the defense quicker which results in poor gameplay late in the game.
What’s Next For The Packers?
Last night was the Packers last preseason game of 2022 and now comes the tough part, roster cuts for both sides of the ball. We are approximately two weeks away from the beginning of the regular season. Week one the Green Bay Packers will travel to Minnesota to play the Vikings for the clash of the NFC North. The Packers and Vikings should once again be the top of the division with the Detroit Lions close by. I project that the Packers will go 13-4 this year, which is the same record as last year. The loss of Davante Adams hurts but the schedule seems easier so they cancel out.
