2022 Packers Week Two: Fantasy Stat Projections
Week one is in the books and now it’s time to dive into Week two of the Packers’ 2022 NFL season. Here are my stat projections for the Packers playmakers followed up with a score prediction.
The Green Bay Packers will take on divisional rival the Chicago Bears at Lambeau field. This will be the second NFC North game of the season for the green and gold. The Packers had a rusty Week one loss to the Minnesota Vikings but will look forward to some happy hunting against the Bears. Some of my projections were close last week but due to the lopsided game plan, the Packers weren’t on the field much. Expect that trend to change this week.
Packers Elite Quarterback
Aaron Rodgers: 23/30, 270 pass yards, three passing touchdowns, eight rush yards, zero interceptions
In the Week one loss to the Vikings, Aaron Rodgers was under duress for most of the game and didn’t have much trust in his new receivers. After a few key dropped passes, Rodgers started targeting his running backs more due to the trust that they share. Look for Rodgers to bounce back like usual and give the young guys another chance. If the receivers are all back to full health, Rodgers will have a field day against the Bears’ secondary.
Packers Running Back Duo
Aaron Jones: 10 rushes, 62 yards, five receptions, 50 receiving yards, one receiving touchdown
AJ Dillon: 15 rushes, 58 yards, one rushing touchdown, four receptions, 35 receiving yards
The two premier running backs split time on the field as forecasted but it was AJ Dillon that touched the ball more in Week one. Both running backs were used in several key situations and helped the Packers move the ball. Look for these two to once again help move the chains and be involved in every offensive play. The game should move in the Packers’ favor, allowing both backs to register more touches out of the backfield.
Packers Shaky Receiving Group
Allen Lazard: Three receptions, 45 receiving yards, one touchdown
Sammy Watkins: Two receptions, 18 receiving yards
Christian Watson: Two receptions, 43 receiving yards
Randall Cobb: One reception, 12 receiving yards
Romeo Doubs: Three receptions, 45 receiving yards
Robert Tonyan: Three receptions, 22 receiving yards, one touchdown
Top wide receiver Allen Lazard should make his debut this Week with the Packers. Rodgers missed having his favorite receiver on the field last week as a pass catcher and a key blocker. After getting stepped on in practice two weeks ago, he should’ve had plenty of time to heal his ankle and should be on track to suit up. Rookie wide receivers Christian Watson and Romeo Doubs got a taste of the NFL last week and their nerves should be lower this week. Watson will look to bounce back after dropping a would-be game-changing touchdown last week and Doubs will look to work on his route running.
Sammy Watkins ran the routes and tried to get open but the pocket collapsed several times limiting his targets. Once Lazard is back, Cobb and Watkins might be depth options and check down targets once the rookies and Lazard get into the groove. Robert Tonyan was a surprise last week after he suited up and played a few snaps on offense. Look for Tonyan to get some more action this week as a trusted target for Aaron Rodgers.
Packers Special Teams
Mason Crosby: Four extra points, two field goals – 32 yards and 36 yards
Pat O’Donnell: Two punts, 38 punt yard average, one punt inside the 20
Packers kicker Mason Crosby only saw action once last week for an extra point after an AJ Dillon rushing touchdown. The other RedZone drive ended with a turnover on downs so Crosby wasn’t needed. Crosby should have plenty of opportunities this weekend to test out his new leg after his knee scope procedure that was repaired in August. Former Bears punter Pat O’Donnell looked great last week as he was able to pin the Vikings several times within the 20-yard line. He should be able to pin his former team back on a couple of punts Sunday night.
Packers Defense
Green Bay Defense: Four sacks, one interception, 13 points against
After an interesting outing last week, the Joe Barry-led defense will hope to rebound after poor planning in the defensive scheme. Justin Jefferson was able to sit in the secondary unprotected until the second half which led to the massive amount of yards that were racked up in the first half. Let’s hope that kind of scheme was thrown in the trash and an old scheme from last year is brought back. If it’s not broken, why fix it? Outside of young wide receiver Darnell Mooney, quarterback Justin Fields doesn’t have much faith in his receivers. This should allow the Packers’ defense to feast upon his poor throwing and bad decision-making.
Packers Win 34-13 Against The Bears
Sunday night at Lambeau field should display the Packers that we all know and love and not the same team that played the Vikings in Week one. Last Week was the second time in a row that the Packers didn’t show up and played awful to start the season. Maybe next year the coaching staff will play some starters in the pre-season games so we can go back to winning in Week one. Expect the Packers offense to hold down the gas pedal and the Packers defense to build a forcefield against the Bears offense.
