Tampa Bay Rays vs. Miami Marlins
Los Angeles Dodgers vs. New York Mets
San Diego Padres vs. San Francisco Giants
Tampa Bay Rays Vs. Miami Marlins:
Shane McClanahan vs. Jesus Luzardo
This inter-state rivalry series kicks off today with one of the top young pitchers in baseball to increase his case for the AL Cy Young. The Marlins who have struggled this season will be fighting for bragging rights this week against the up-state Rays.
For the Marlins they will send Jesus Luzardo to the bump to take on the Rays offense. On the season Luzardo has a 3.34 ERA and a 3.04 xERA. He will be pitching at home in Miami tonight where he has not fared well so far this year. At home this year he has a 4.87 ERA compared to a 2.54 ERA on the road. He will be taking on a Rays team that over the past month is top ten offensively in the league. They rank 9th in wRC+ in all of baseball with a 108 score. Backing up Luzardo out of the Miami bullpen will not likely be much help. In the past month they are 21st in baseball with a 4.25 ERA.
On the other side for the Rays, they will send Cy Young hopeful Shane McClanahan to the mound to take on the slumping Marlins. On the season McClanahan has a 2.20 ERA and a 2.54 xERA. He has faced this Marlins team once already this year. In that start, he went six innings of zero-run ball while striking out nine. This Marlins team he will be taking on is last in all of the baseball offensively in the past month. They rank last (30th) overall in wRC+ with a 70 rating, and last against LHP, which McClanahan is, with a wOBA of .237. If McClanahan ends up leaving the game before this one is over he will be backed up by the Ray’s top five bullpen with a 3.07 ERA over the past month.
The Rays have one of the best pitchers on the mound tonight and are taking on literally the worst offense in baseball. Take the Rays to win the first half of this game on the run line. Even if it’s 1-0 the Rays should coast here.

Los Angeles Dodgers Vs. New York Mets:
Andrew Heaney vs. Taijuan Walker
A possible NL Championship Series preview kicks off tonight in the big apple tonight. Both teams will be looking to flex some muscle and show that they are the superior team in the National League.
To start the series off on the right foot the Dodgers will send Andrew Heaney to the mound to take on the Mighty Mets’ offense. On the year Heaney has a 1.94 ERA and a 3.16 xERA. He missed most of the first half of the season due to injury but has been back in the Dodgers’ Rotation since the beginning of August. He will be facing the Mets offense who do have the 3rd best overall offense in the past month in terms of wRC+ with a rating of 120. But, they do not seem to like facing lefties like Heaney. In the past 30 days against LHP, they are 23rd in baseball with a .289 team wOBA.
For the Mets, they will have Taijuan Walker on the mound tonight. While starting off the season on a tear he has come back to earth as of late. On the year thus far he has a 3.38 ERA and a 4.24 xERA. In the month of August though in 14 innings, he has a 7.71 ERA. It’s never a good time to face the Dodgers offense when struggling. That Dodgers offense is even better than the Mets over the past month, as they rank 2nd in baseball with a 135 wRC+ and are 2nd against RHP like Walker in the same timeframe as well in terms of wOBA.
This will be a fantastic series but the Dodgers seem to have the upper hand today. Their offense is better against their match up and after the starters exit, they have the superior bullpen as well. The Dodgers pen ranks 2nd in baseball in August and the Mets sit at 18th. Take the Dodgers at a cheap price to take game one of this series.

San Diego Padres Vs. San Francisco Giants:
Blake Snell vs. Logan Webb
An NL West rivalry series starts today between these two teams while the Padres fight to keep their wild card spot and the Giants hope to dash their hopes and bring them back down to the bottom of the standings with them. Each side has one of their top pitchers to do their bidding tonight.
For the Giants, they have Logan Webb on the mound, the ace of their staff. On the season he carries a 3.33 ERA and a 3.68 xERA. He has not been his usual dominant self as of late though as in the month of August he has a 5.22 ERA. But, against this familiar inter-division foe in the Padres, he has fared well. In 2 starts vs the Padres on the year, he has gone 16 innings while allowing just 2 ER. Backing up Webb in the pen is a top 10 bullpen as their bullpen has a 3.48 ERA over the past month which is good for 8th in the league.
For the Padres they will send Lefty Blake Snell to the bump. On the year Snell has a 4.24 ERA and a 3.38 xERA. Snell’s season was starting to pick up throughout the middle of the season but in his last two starts, he has allowed 9 ER in 8.1 IP. Tonight he will be taking on a Giants offense that is 8th in baseball against LHP like Snell over the past 30 days with a .327 team wOBA.
These teams are fairly evenly matched offensively and out of the bullpen which is why we are going to limit today’s best bet on the first half of the game while the Giants have the advantage on the mound. Take the Giants and Logan Webb to continue his success against the Padres tonight.
