Tampa Bay Rays vs. Toronto Blue Jays
Chicago Cubs vs. New York Mets
Atlanta Braves vs. San Francisco Giants
Tampa Bay Rays Vs. Toronto Blue Jays Daily Best Bet:
Cooper Criswell vs. Jose Berrios
A battle of two playoff-bound AL East teams kicks off tonight as each team is fighting for the top wild-card spot. One side has a rookie pitcher making his first career start and the other has a tried and true veteran starter.
The veteran starter is pitching for the Blue Jays tonight, in Jose Berrios. It has not been his best season in the majors to date as he has a 5.23 ERA and a 5.38 xERA so far this year. While at home this season, he is 6-1 and the Jays have won his last four starts. He has faced off with this same Rays team once already this year and in that start, he went five innings while giving up just two ER and taking home the win for his team.
On the other side is a pitcher making his first career start in Cooper Criswell. He has pitched a total of 1.1 innings in the big leagues in relief. So far in AAA this season he has a 3.95 ERA. He will be taking on a Blue Jays offense that is top ten over the past month offensively with a 111 wrC+ (league average is 100).
Both teams have comparable bullpens as of late as the Jays have the third best and the Jays the seventh best in terms of ERA. This is a very even divisional matchup but with one side having the veteran starter who has been good in this situation at home as of late, take the proven commodity to take home a win to start off this long series.
TOR ML, -155.
Chicago Cubs Vs. New York Mets Daily Best Bet:
Javier Assad vs. Christ Bassitt:
Fresh off of a home loss on Sunday Night Baseball, the Chicago Cubs take on the NL East-leading Mets at the beginning of a new series tonight. Similar to our last matchup there is a young rookie starter going against a proven starter.
The proven starter for the Mets is Chris Bassitt who brings with him an ERA of 3.24 and an xERA of 3.17. He will be pitching tonight at home in New York where he tends to fare better, as he has a 2.77 ERA while pitching at home this year. He will be taking on a Cubs offense today that has a combined batting average of .067 against Bassitt. The Cubs are 21st offensively over the past month with a wRC+ of 90 (the league average is 100).
On the other side for the Cubbies is Javier Assad who carries a 2.93 ERA and a 4.40 xERA on the season. He has only made 3 starts so far this season and in his last time out against the lowly Reds he went 5.1 IP while giving up four ER. He will be facing a stout Mets offense tonight who is top 5 in the past 30 days against right handed pitchers like Assad with a .334 wOBA.
As I mentioned before the Cubs are coming off of the Sunday Night Baseball showcase game that runs late into Sunday night and to have to turn around and face the Mets the next day will leave them exhausted. That plus they will have to face Bassitt who has taken his Mets team to a victory in each of the last 8 starts. Take the Mets to win this one easily and cover the run line by winning by more than one run.

Atlanta Braves Vs. San Francisco Giants Daily Best Bet:
Spencer Strider vs. Alex Cobb
The other half of last nights Sunday Night Baseball battle faces off here against a top team in the National League. The Giants will have traveled from Chicago last night home to San Francisco to take on the Braves who are fighting for their division title.
To take on the jet lagged Giants tonight the Braves will send rookie sensation Spencer Strider. On the season in 120.2 innings he has a 2.69 ERA and a 2.45 xERA. So far in the month of September he has just a 1.29 ERA over 14 innings. Tonight he will be taking on a Giants offense that is 20th in baseball over the past month offensively with a wRC+ of 91 (league average is 100) and are also below average against right handed pitchers like Strider with a wOBA of .298.
On the other side for the Giants is Alex Cobb who brings with him an ERA of 3.68 and an xERA of 3.17. Over the past month of August, he had a 3.10 ERA in 29 innings. He will be facing a Braves offense that mounted a massive comeback against the Mariners last night and should be riding high off of that effort, even though the bullpen blew it for them. The Braves’ offense over the past 30 days is third overall with a 119 wRC+ and are 7th against right-handed pitchers with a .332 wOBA.
The Braves have the better offense in this matchup, the better starting pitcher, and the benefit of much more relaxed travel since their last game. Take the better team to win this one in the first 5 innings while the Giants are still waking up and covering the half a run runline while doing so.
