Adios Amigo: Darius Leonard Released
Updated: Jan 13
Wow! Darius Shaquille Leonard has been released from the Indianapolis Colts. His performance has been on the decline due to his attitude and injuries. Despite his popularity among fans, he is not considered a necessary player.
Unlike the rest of the team who have adapted well, he does not seem to fit well into Gus Bradley's defense. Recent comments made by Leonard may have contributed to the decision made by Ballard to release him.

The Downfall
Leonard's playing time decreased from 90 100% to 70% this year after his injuries. Although he has had setbacks with injuries, I believe that what hurt him the most was Gus Bradley, as he doesn't fit the system. Unfortunately, even though I would like to see Gus gone, the organization seems to think otherwise, especially after yesterday afternoon.
Leonard was previously known for being "The Maniac" due to his ability to create turnovers, but his recent play has not lived up to that nickname in this system. This year, he has not had any forced fumbles, interceptions, or fumble recoveries.
Next Man Up
In the current situation, we need to rely on the next man up. Fortunately, we have capable players on our team. EJ Speed is expected to take charge, but let's take a look at recent changes. It has been reported that Grant Stuard has been promoted to the starting Sam Linebacker in the depth chart, while Ronnie Harrison has been moved from safety to linebacker.
I'm particularly thrilled about this change since, during the off-season, Julian Blackmon's transition from free safety to strong safety has led to impressive results. Therefore, I anticipate a similar level of performance from these guys as well.
What's Next For Darius Leonard?
Leonard will find a team, but the question is where? He is originally from South Carolina, so it's possible that he could make a move to join his former head coach, Frank Reich. However, based on recent interviews at his turkey drive, it seems that Leonard has finally realized that he needs to start by sitting on the bench.
Given these remarks, I believe he would be looking to join a team that has a chance of winning a championship. Perhaps the Kansas City Chiefs or the Philadelphia Eagles.
Conclusion
Darius Shaquille Leonard was an exceptional player for the Colts, but unfortunately, injuries and scheme have cut his time on the team short. Although he may not perform at the same level as before, he is a great man, as evidenced by his Annual Turkey Drive that he held just hours after being released. I wish him nothing but the best.
