Adonai Mitchell: Limited Volume Can Still Shine For Fantasy
The Indianapolis Colts drafted Adonai Mitchell with the 54th overall pick in the second round of the NFL Draft. “AD” was projected to be drafted in the first round, but he fell to the middle of the second round due to “character issues,” which Colts GM Chris Ballard quickly dismissed.
Mitchell's college production was up-and-down, with 93 receptions, 1405 yards (15.1 Yards per reception), and 18 touchdowns. He joins an offense run by Shane Stiechan, who runs 11 personnel at a top-10 rate.
Pittman is the X, Downs is the slot, and Mitchell can fill in as the Y and stretch the field. This plays right into Anthony Richardson’s strength and gives him a game-breaking downfield threat. Colts WR Coach Reggie Wayne said this about what he's seen so far from the rookie.
“He’s still got some ways to go, but as you seen today, give him the opportunity and he can make plays. That’s one thing that’s not new to him, if you watch his college film, he continued to make plays. But just getting him familiar with the offense more and more each day. ...I definitely got to start from scratch with him. But I tell you what, man, the guy’s smart, he loves to compete, he’s an alpha and I need all the dogs I can get.” Stampede Blue
Mitchell has slid down fantasy boards (going from the late first to the middle of the second round in rookie drafts) just like he did in the NFL; take advantage of that.
Our consensus projections for Mitchell in the 2024 season would be 43 receptions, 635 yards, and 5 touchdowns.
