AJ Brown Fantasy WR1 Incoming?
AJ Brown (AJB) had the tale of two seasons last year. Brown finished as WR13 or better in 7 of his first 9 games in half-PPR formats and had just one finish outside the top 24 Wide Receivers. The Eagles had their bye week in Week 10. AJB did not finish inside the top 13 Wide Receivers once in his remaining 8 games played and had just two weeks where he finished inside the top 24 Wide Receivers.
This season, Kellen Moore is taking over as the Offensive Coordinator and will look to help provide AJB with some consistency as a playcaller. Kellen Moore was the OC for the Chargers last season and for the Cowboys from 2019-2022. In every season where Moore’s starting Quarterback has played at least 13 games, his team has been in the top 10 in passing attempts and yards.
This streak could be broken by the Eagles, as they have been in the bottom half of the league in pass attempts each of the three years Jalen Hurts has been the starting Quarterback. However, I do believe we will see a strong uptick in pass attempts and passing yards for the Eagles this season to the point where they finally crack into the top 16 teams, and Jalen Hurts gets his first 4,000-yard passing season.
Last season, Hurts was just 142 yards short of that mark, and 300 yards short of the mark in 2022 while missing two games. If the Eagles creep more toward the league average in pass attempts and Kellen Moore is able to provide some consistency for the Wide Receivers in Philadelphia, AJ Brown could go from being a boom-or-bust WR1 to having a legitimate chance of finishing as THE WR1 this year in fantasy.
Our consensus projections for Brown in the 2024 season would be: 96 receptions, 1396 yards, 9 touchdowns through the air and 0 carries for 0 yards and 0 rushing touchdown.
