Alabama Quarterback Headed To Transfer Portal

Since the retirement of head coach Nick Saban, several Alabama Crimson Tide players have entered the transfer portal. The latest one is significant as he could have been the quarterback of the future in Tuscaloosa. On Friday 1/19, five-star recruit Julian Sayin, announced he wanted to transfer from the program.

The incoming freshman was one of the top-ranked quarterbacks in the 2024 class. Sayin enrolled early at Alabama, where he first started taking classes this semester, so that he could be ready for the 2024 season.

However, Sayin primarily chose Alabama to play for Saban. The coaching change is what prompted him to now want to go elsewhere. Additionally, redshirt freshman quarterback Austin Mack who was with Washington this past year is joining the Crimson Tide to play with his former coach Kalen DeBoer. Sayin likely wants a place where he could be the quarterback in the near future.

Sayin is one of several key players to have entered the transfer portal following Nick Saban's monumental decision. Some of the other names include sophomore wide receiver Isaiah Bond and freshman safety Caleb Downs. Saban still is expected to be around the program to assist coach DeBoer, but his retirement from coaching has led to players’ exploring their options.

The good news is that QB Jalen Milroe will be sticking around. The 2023 starter made significant progress throughout the season and could be among Heisman favorites in 2024. Alabama should still be a powerhouse despite the many changes this offseason.
