Are The Cowboys About To Trade This Star Player

Last week on ESPN's morning show Get Up, former NFL executive Mike Tannenbaum proposed a trade that would send Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Brandin Cooks to the New York Jets for linebacker C.J. Mosley.

This was more so for the Jets to be able to acquire a veteran wide receiver to go along with their young star, Garrett Wilson.

Does this trade make sense for the Cowboys? Probably not. I wouldn't trade one of my top receivers for a linebacker who will be 32 years old at the start of the season.

Mosley is still one of the best linebackers in the NFL, and the Cowboys desperately need help at that position, but bringing in a 32-year-old linebacker could turn out to be a disaster because you never know when a player at that position can start to fall off and at that age it could happen at any time.

First, the position value needs to make more sense in this trade. A receiver brings way more value to a team than a linebacker does, and the NFL tells us this every year when it's time to pay and draft the linebacker position.

Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott had an MVP-type season this past year, and I wouldn't trade one of his weapons with 54 receptions, 657 yards, and eight touchdowns.

The NFL will always be about the head coach, quarterback, and offense, and Cooks brings way more value to the Cowboys than Mosley ever would.

It is a fun trade to get the mind thinking, but Dallas could go out and improve their linebacker position somehow through the draft, another trade, or free agency.
