Arizona Cardinals Make Decision On Kyler Murray’s Future
The Arizona Cardinals are entering a very important offseason. After finishing 4-13 and missing the playoffs once again, many have speculated the future of 26 year-old quarterback Kyler Murray, who was drafted first-overall by the Cardinals in the 2019 NFL Draft out of Oklahoma. After suffering an ACL injury towards the end of the 2022 NFL season, which saw the mobile quarterback miss the rest of the season and all but eight games of this past season, Arizona has the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Although there are questions being asked about using the fourth overall pick in the 2024 NFL Draft on a new quarterback if someone like Drake Maye or Jayden Daniels fall, the Cardinals have said they are committed to Kyler Murray. The quarterback wearing number-one signed a huge contract just a few years ago which gave him $230 million dollars over five years with most being guaranteed.
While Kliff Kingsbury, the former Cardinals head coach who was a big fan of Murray out of college, is no longer on the team as he prepares to take over the Washington Commanders offensive coordinator job, current head coach Jonathan Gannon is a big fan of Murray and wants to go forward with him. The second-year Cardinals coach, who was apart of the Philadelphia Eagles in 2022 when the team reached the Super Bowl, said back in January that “Number 1 is our franchise QB.”
It will remain to be seen whether the Cardinals will hold truth to their statement and commitment to the 26-year-old quarterback who will be fully healthy for the first time in over a year. The team said the same thing in 2019 when Kingsbury claimed that quarterback Josh Rosen “is our guy” yet proceeded to draft Murray months later. What do you think Arizona should do this off-season?
