Auburn Hiring D.J. Durkin As Defensive Coordinator
According to Chris Low of ESPN, Auburn is finalizing a deal to hire D.J. Durkin as their next defensive coordinator. Durkin was signed to a three-year deal per ESPN's Pete Thamel.
Hugh Freeze has decided after weeks of speculation and rumor. D.J. Durkin will be joining the team as defensive coordinator. This will be his fourth coaching stint in the SEC. Durkin has previously coached at Florida, Ole Miss, and Texas A&M.
During the last two seasons, he worked as the defensive coordinator for Texas A&M, and under his leadership, their defense became the best in the SEC, allowing only an average of 162.1 passing yards per game. Durkin is famous for his exceptional recruiting abilities, and in 2012, he was honored with the title of Rivals.Com Recruiter of the Year.
D.J. Durkin was linked to several coaching jobs in the off-season, including Alabama before Nick Saban retired, and Missouri.
