Auburn Names New Offensive Coordinator And Running Backs Coach
AUBURN - Derrick Nix has decided to leave Ole Miss and join Auburn as their new offensive coordinator and running back coach.
Nix had previously worked with Coach Hugh Freeze from 2012 to 2016 when Coach Freeze was the Head Coach for the Rebels. Coach Freeze has announced that he will be taking over play calling for the 2024-2025 season, and as a result, Coach Nix's role will be more focused on game planning, coaching running backs, and assisting with recruiting.
Who is Derrick Nix?
Derrick Nix is originally from Attalla, Alabama, and graduated from Southern Miss with a degree in sports administration. He began his coaching career in 2003 as a defensive graduate assistant, before being promoted to tight ends coach just a year later. In 2006, he went on to become the running back coach.
Nix was the running back coach for the Golden Eagles until he departed for Ole Miss. He continued in the same role as running back coach for the Rebels from 2008 to 2019. Subsequently, he was appointed as the wide receiver coach, a position he held from 2020 to 2023. In 2022, he was promoted to assistant head coach, and in 2023, he earned the title of associate head coach.
