Bengals Make Their First Move Of The Offseason
The NFL new league year doesn't start for another three weeks, but the NFL franchise tag window has opened, and the Cincinnati Bengals wasted no time placing the tag on one of their franchise-changing players.
According to Ian Rapoport from the NFL Network, the Bengals will be franchise-tagging wide receiver Tee Higgins.
Higgins is one of the best wide receivers in the NFL but sometimes doesn't get the love he deserves because he is the number two receiver on the team, and he does have to play alongside a Top-three receiver in the game, Ja'Marr Chase.
Higgins is set to make 21.8 million dollars in 2024, which is fully guaranteed.
The NFL salary cap was also announced on Friday, and it will be 255.4 million dollars. I'm not shocked that the Bengals decided to make this move and tagged Higgins immediately to see what they could spend going into free agency in a few weeks.
I'm assuming the Bengals will try to get a long-term deal done with Higgins, but they will have to sign Ja'Marr Chase to a long-term deal first, which he is eligible for this offseason.
The Bengals have one of the best offenses in the league, and it took a hit last season when quarterback Joe Burrow went down with an injury in the middle of the season, which kept him out for the rest of the year.
The Bengals missed the playoffs for the first time in two years, but now they will have a healthy Burrow, franchise-tagged Higgins, and an extended Ja'Marr Chase.
The Bengals should be one of the best teams in the league in 2024, and hopefully, they can stay healthy at the quarterback position.
