Three Big Takeaways From Day One Of Buffalo Bills Minicamp

For the first time, Buffalo Bills superstar quarterback Josh Allen admitted he had work to do on his throwing mechanics after injuring his shoulder last season. Reporters asked Allen repeatedly last season if he was hurt, and every time, he refused to blame his performance on the injury.

“Obviously, going back to last season, a couple of tweeks, in my shoulder or elbow, it changes how you throw just a little bit because your body is shielding itself from pain,” Allen said as the Bills' three-day mandatory mini-camp started on Tuesday.

High Tech Help For Josh Allen

In the past, Allen worked with specialists at Biometrek to fine-tune his throwing motion and maximize his strength and accuracy.

Since the 2023 season ended, Allen said the company helped him remove the bad habits he developed, compensating for those injuries.

"Big time on just mechanically getting it as efficient as possible," Allen said. "Meeting with Chris Hess, who has been here, he owns Biometrek, just digitally mapping our throwing motions right now and just seeing what we can tighten up on and improve on.”

Biometrek bills itself as a ‘performance analyst company.’ The company's website advertises “state-of-the-art bio-mechanical movement technology to objectively measure the unique way your body moves.”

Biometrek provides three-dimensional images and videos of his throwing motion. On Tuesday, Allen said towards the end of last season, he was "getting long with my arm and a little bit with my stride."

Matt Milano Is Back On The Field

Bills linebacker Matt Milano was back in pads for Tuesday’s practice at the team facility. He broke his leg in the Bills' week five loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London last season.

Head coach Sean McDermott said Milano is “on schedule” in his rehabilitation. Although he is limited during the three-day mini-camp.

"It's big," McDermott said. "Credit to Matt and what he's been able to do with our training staff. The work he's put in, he's so focused. He was focused before this. I feel like he is even more focused, if that is even possible, now."

Milano focused on individual work on Tuesday. The Bills medical staff believes he will be ready to fully return when training camp opens next month at St. John Fisher College in Rochester, New York.

Bills Receiver Leaves Practice With Injury

Wide receiver Khalil Shakir went down at the beginning of the team drills on Tuesday. Reports say he went up to catch a pass and came down hard.

WGR 550 Bills reporter Sal Capaccio reported Shakir huddled with trainers before limping off the field. The Bills have not released any further information on Shakir.

At the beginning of practice, the Bills had seven players out due to injuries: Linebackers Dorian Williams, Nick Morrow, Baylon Spector, Edefuan Ulofoshio, running backs Ray Davis & Ty Johnson, and fullback Reggie Gilliam.

Just One Player Missing From Bills Mini-Camp

Buffalo Bills cornerback Christian Benford is the only player not in attendance at Tuesday’s mandatory team mini-camp.

Head coach Sean McDermott told reporters that Benford was excused to handle a family matter.

Benford is a 2022 sixth-round pick out of Villanova, who started 14 games last season. He injured his knee in the Bills Wild-Card win over the Pittsburgh Steelers. That injury was not serious, but it kept him out of the Bills' loss to the Kansas City Chiefs in the 2023 Divisional round.
