Blake Corum Could Be A Diamond In The Fantasy Rough
Sean McVay drafted another undersized running back with modest speed from a big school with a winning history. The Los Angeles Rams selected Blake Corum with the 83rd overall pick. He was one of the most productive backs in this draft with 674 carries, 3737 yards (5.5 yards per attempt), and 58 rushing touchdowns, including 27 in their National Championship season in 2023.
Corum wasn’t used much in the passing game, with only 56 receptions for 411 yards (7.3 yards per reception) and 3 touchdowns in his career at Michigan. The Rams have Kyren Williams, who had an elite season (RB7 with only 12 games played) when healthy last year. When he was injured (5 games), the Rams' offense suffered severely. Expecting Corum to come in and split work with Williams would be difficult since McVay sticks with his trusted guy when he has one.
Corum will take some work off of Williams's top and may occasionally have a goalline role, but the passing work should belong to Kyren. If KW were to go down during the season, Corum offers week-winning upside if he is the lead back for a McVay offense. 150-200 touches in this offense should still provide an RB3 floor as Williams's backup.
Corum is going in the top half of the second round in dynasty rookie drafts, in redraft leagues he is worth his 138th ADP as a handcuff to Williams or a trade chip if Kyren were to go down. In dynasty startups, he should be passed over by the win-now teams and prioritized by youthful contenders.
Our consensus projections for Corum in the 2024 season are 133 carries for 646 yards and 5 touchdowns. In the receiving game, his consensus projection is 22 receptions for 146 yards and 2 touchdowns.
